First XI Men's Match Reports - December

Chalfont St Peter Men's XI's 1 Harrow 4

Two early second half goals by Harrow effectively settled a fluctuating match at Cressex where despite the wintry weather the synthetic grass pitch was in excellent condition. Harrow took the lead in the 15th minute through Nick Lendon but Chalfont equalised within seven minutes, Robert Machin's powerful penalty corner shot giving John Lehman no chance in the Harrow goal. There was little that Andy Watts, Chalfont's goalkeeper, who had an impressive match, could do to prevent Marc Defanis putting Harrow back in front with a sizzling penalty corner shot five minutes later. It was Defanis who created the opening for Lendon to score Harrow's third two minutes after half time, and when Jamie Hurd added a fourth from a penalty coner Chalfont might have conceeded without a fight but they came back strongly winning a succession of penalty corners which they were unable to convert although Guy Stallard had the ball in the net only for the goal to be disallowed for an unclear infringement.

Chalfont : A Watts, R Machin, C Pritchard, Alastair Howse, K Peckham, G Bullock, A Earnshaw, S Shipley (Capt), G Stallard, B Pearse, Andrew Howse, Substitute used P Colwill.

Chalfont St. Peter Mens 1sts 0 Maidenhead 4

The first XI lost 4-0 to Maidenhead at Altwood School on Saturday, fomer Portsmouth University striker Mike Carr scoring a hat trick. His first came after 12 minutes, a steal from the Chalfont defence. He scored from a penalty six minutes later following an offence by Clive Bearman on Roger Campbell. Gavin Mander led some strong Chalfont attacks but the Maidenhead defence impressed with its solidity. Campbell got his goal with a fortunate deflection off the foot of Mark McCree and tehn a clumsy tackly by Mark Pearce on Simon Harriss brought another penalty and the final goal from Carr 15 minutes into the second half.

Team: Bearman, Machin, Colwill, Dunford, Blamey, Mander, Pearce, Shipley, Turner, Pearse, Wertheim, Sub McCree

Chalfont St Peter 0 Henley 4

In a free flowing match which produced chances galore at both ends Chalfont went down to a team who are second in the division above them in the Nastro Azzurro South League at Cressex on Saturday. Simon Shipley might have given Chalfont the lead in the fifth minute but he just failed to touch in Giles Payne's penalty corner shot. Payne was in action at the other end taking Chris Green's shot off the goal line and Green was denied again by Andrew Earnshaw before Robbie Mortimer thundered in a penalty corner in the sixteenth minute. Ten minutes later Henley went further ahead, Green finishing a six player move with a clinical shot. Chalfont enjoyed their best spell at the start of the second half with Gavin Mander and Neil Turner probing purposefully down the right wing and Simon Sworn in the Henley goal was forced to make good saves from both Shipley and Barry Pearse.

Chalfont : C Bearnam; G Payne; A Earnshaw; D Dunford; C Blamey; G Mander; M Pearce (capt); S Shipley; N Turner; B Pearse; A Wertheim; Sub Used P Colwill.
