Berkhamsted

May Bank Holiday 1997

An editorial by Gareth Bullock, the stand-in captain
Unlucky not to progress to the semis in the afternoon. Team balance sheet went wobbly after the third game. Blame it on the greasy hot dogs and exuberance at seeing two fab goals in the third game. Should have stuffed the Belgiums. Overall, top weekend. Sun factor 20. Had a field day. Enjoyed by all.

Player Profiles
Werty Beanie Kyber
Played a stormer in defence and midfield. Shouldhave won a fair play award as he is such a gent. The only person to pan (is this right?) after eight in the curry house. All the photos of Berko show Beanie lying down or waving to he camera. Hockey secondary for showing off. Fabulous referring. Relieved of all apssing and tackling duties and given the task of scoring. Scored two in three matches then had to elave. left opposition defence in bits.
Neil Watsy Pilch
Played on left part of field, normally inside left. Had busy games, playing with quiet determination. But the stocks of jelly babies were quite low. Turned up with the goalkeeping kit and never looked back. Played like a donkey (u sure?) for Aylesbury though. Shame that! Drank considerably less alcohol that last year by all accounts! Came out of goal on the Sunday and scored 4. Blimey. Solid on the wing and in refusing certain Ayelsbury advances. Game for a curry and lots of larger though. Perfected his french accent out of earshot of the Belgiums. Had too much of a tan for a nautical man. Had the women flocking from all corners (to him not away)
Cloddagh Daffy Gareth
A real find as left back and wing. Ominously eying the camera early on, his real contribution was to come later. Superb at singing. Sweeper. Say no more. hard to say what was brightest, the sun or his car's leather interior. Whichever, kept a smile on Christina's face. Captain (and scribe). Maybe a bit too keen on tactical changes that stunned the opposition when a simple switch mean tthe whole team running on and off the pitch! At least we got some exercise. Scored (a cracker) on the Sunday.
Angela Fiona Sarah D
Failed to succumb to request to cook for the whole team. Positioned in defence with Daffy and Fioina and played very well throughout. Played right back, switched to inside right and scored. Missed the fun in the evening but persuaded to play on the Sunday. Unperturbed by playing with a bunch of mis fits. Showed great promisde on the wing. Even played on the Sunday.
Sarah B One Touch Annie
Rotating between right back, wing and nursing Andy's dodgy body parts. Slotted into whichever position was asked to. Showed equal eagerness in dancing to the Spice Girls Following on from a superb performance at Folkestone, played superbly up front in whatever position. Loud on and off the pitch. Storming inside right, equally active in front of the bar. Further explanation not required.
Guest Players
Mike Rachel (Berks)
Aylesbury : Despite playing for Aylesbury on the Saturday, he braved goal for Chalfont. Let in many goals despite a steady performance on the Saturday night. Played well up front. Had a hard decision to make between playing for Chaflont and her duties at Berko. Why Why??
