Chalfont St. Peter Cricket
Club: 1st XI Photographs, 2002 These photographs were taken during
the TVL Division 2B match against Aldershot, played at Chalfont Park, on
Saturday, 29th June, 2002. For the second week running at Chalfont Park, there was a
thrilling game of cricket for the locals to enjoy, and once again we managed
to come out on top, this time winning by just one wicket. Man of the
match was Rahul Punj, who struck a superb 75 to rescue us from almost
certain defeat. Simon Gooch also deserves a mention, for scoring one
of the best ducks anyone can remember, as he shared a fifty run partnership
with Rahul!

| This is the familiar sight of Zamir Khan bowling at Chalfont Park. |
 |
| This is Shahid Din batting, a solid forward defensive. |
 |
| Shahid batting again, with the beautiful setting at
Chalfont Park in the background! |
 |
| This is skipper Zamir Khan on strike. |
 |
| Zamir again, square
cutting for four. |
 |
| A classical trademark cover drive from Gavin Mander.
Sadly, he was out caught and bowled next ball! |
 |
| Two stalwarts of the club, Eric Read and Dudley Scott,
enjoying a beer while watching the cricket. Also in the picture
are club chairman and groundsman, David Banner, and Saqib Ahmed, who
looks like he is on scoring duty! Saqib was later to put the pads
on and share in a match winning partnership for the tenth wicket with
Satish Sharma. |
 |
| This is Gavin Mander climbing up onto the storage
container to adjust the scoreboard. Or is he about to throw
himself off after getting out? |
 |
| This is Simon Gooch defending carefully during
his splendid, match winning innings of, umm, nought. But it was
the fifty runs that Rahul Punj scored while Goochie was keeping an end
up that made it such an outstanding contribution! |
 |
| Rahul Punj, during his magnificent innings
of 75, here forcing one off the back foot for two.
Just beginning to warm up! |
 |
| Now the fireworks begin! Rahul Punj crashes an off
drive for four, the fielders didn't even have a chance to move before it
crossed the boundary! |
 |
| Rahul Punj is out now, so it's all down to the last wicket pair, Satish Sharma and Saqib Ahmed (on strike).
When they came together,
with thirty runs still to get, Aldershot must have thought that they were home
and dry. But
they probably came up against the best number ten and eleven batsmen in
the league, and we managed to secure the narrowest of victories! |
