The Saturday 1st XI suffered a very disappointing defeat in a home match against Wokingham II. Wokingham won the toss and put us in to bat, but we responded magnificently with our best score of the season so far, 259-8 from 52 overs. Safi Ahmed top scored with 59, well supported by Zamir Khan (44), Shahid Din (37) and Gavin Mander (34). However, we fielded poorly, with several chances going to ground, and our bowling was erratic. And Wokingham batted very well to pass our total with something to spare, 261-2 in 45.2 overs, defeat by 8 wickets.

A disappointing batting performance by the Saturday 2nd XI was eventually their undoing as they lost to NPL Teddington by 3 wickets on Saturday. Electing to bat first on hard looking track, we were soon struggling against some consistent line and length bowling from the opening bowlers and were 28 for 4 off 20 overs. Simon Gooch (22) and Rob Machin (46) led a recovery but wickets continued to fall. A few late lusty blows by Asif Raza and Jason
Page helped the total up to 142 as the team were all out in the 50th over.

In reply, Zahid Aslam clean bowled one of the NPL openers in the second over but at the first drinks break the hosts had reached 47 for 1. Straight after the break, 3 wickets fell for no runs including 2 in an over by Faheem Ijaz. At 91 for 7 it looked as though we were in with a chance of pulling off an unlikely win. As the game drew towards a tense finish, the NPL 8th wicket pair chanced their arms and two difficult chances went begging and in the end NPL finished up winning with 3 overs left.

The Saturday 3rd XI travelled to Aylesbury and discovered that chivalry and sportsmanship are not always rewarded. As Aylesbury had 9 players and we had 11, a volunteer was requested to play for Aylesbury, Charlie Wooler bravely stepped forward and although his first ball landed just in front of the houses, his batting was to prove crucial to the result.

We batted first and Chris Yoxall junior led the way, batting throughout the innings to record 94 not out. During what was his first ever fifty, he also hit his first two sixes ever. Support came principally from Murray Scott (29) and Gareth Noot (26) as we reached 199 for 4 off their 40 overs. Chris Bryant took a wicket with the second ball of Aylesbury's innings and they were to lose 3 more wickets early on. However, Aylesbury were also scoring very quickly and when Charlie Wooler strode to crease in the tenth over, the score was already 70 for 4. Dropped on nought, he dominated the bowling thereafter before being bowled 3 runs short of victory for 68. Aylesbury duly wrapped up their victory by 5 wickets in the 33rd over. Gareth Noot was the pick of our bowlers with 2 for 28 off his 8 overs, with Chris Bryant showing good promise on his debut with 1 for 48 off eight overs.

The Sunday 1st XI had an excellent victory in an away match against Marlow Park in the 2nd round of the Skinner Cup. We batted first and scored 270-4 from our 45 overs, with Zamir Khan making a superb hundred, 105 not out. Zeddy has hit a remarkable 54 sixes already this season but, slightly ironically, did not manage a maximum today in his century! Marlow started its reply brightly, and reached 113-1 in 17 overs, but a good fielding display (yes, this is correct, a good fielding display from CSP 1st XI) swung the game our way, with Tim Graver and Zamir Khan both taking excellent catches, and stand in wicket keeper Martin L. White capping a fine display with a stumping. Newcomer Irfarn Moughal also had a fine match, scoring 47 with the bat and then taking 2-24 with his leg spinners and googlies.

The Sunday 2nd XI played a home match against Braywood on Sunday. We had a depleted team with Dean Page away kayaking and others pulling out at the last minute, it was a scratch team with a smattering of regulars that batted first in the hot weather. In reaching 185-7, only Steve Baker (56) and Dave Andersen (35) made any real headway against tight bowling and suspect umpiring decisions from the opposition umpire in 43 turgid overs.

We always felt that we were at least 20 runs short, but started well with tight bowling from Chris Yoxall Snr (13-2-50-1) and Steve Baker (12-2-41-1). However, short of bowling options, it fell to Gareth Noot and Dan Webb to bowl six overs each, with the opposition umpire again giving spurious no-balls and wides as well as turning down plum lbw decisions, leaving the opposition to win with 4 wickets intact and 2 overs remaining. A mention must go to junior Chris Bryant, who was conscripted in to the side an hour before it started and was completely overlooked as a bowling option. Sorry Chris!

Asif Ahmed was the hero for the Midweek XI when he hit a six off the last ball to win the match! BBC Radio News won the toss on another blisteringly hot day, and unsurprisingly chose to bat. Jason Page and Martin Cartledge both put in good spells with the ball, and the visitors limped somewhat to 50-3 from 16 overs. At this point, the BBC started to get on top, with one of their batsman scoring a superb hundred, and they eventually reached 258-7 from their 40 overs. We left the field hot, exhausted and a little demoralised. Things did not improve as we slumped to 101-6, albeit in just the 15th over, as Zamir Khan (33) and Cartledge (27) kept us up with the run rate. Then Satish Sharma struck a sparkling 47 and an improbable victory still seemed on. But when he was out, we were left at 184-7 in the 31st over. At this point Dean Page stepped up to play a superb match winning knock of 59 not out, supported by brother Jason, who struck a very quickfire 25, and then Sohail Ijaz. But when Sohail sacrificed himself to a run out off the penultimate ball, all seemed lost. We needed 4 to tie, or 5 to win, with one ball and one wicket in hand. But cometh the man, cometh the hour, and up stepped Asif Ahmed to repeat his brother's heroics at Fleet two weeks ago!

Mudo is one of the unsung heroes of the 1st XI, a reliable lower order batsman and ever present, Saturday and Sunday.

He has modelled his running between the wickets on Inzamam-ul-Haq. He's not a "yes, no, sorry" man, it's more a question of "look, run, hope, dive." At High Wycombe this season, he didn't get close enough to the crease to dive, and was left prostrate in the middle of the pitch! His best innings for the club so far was his 45 not out against Falkland II, away, last season, when he shared in an unbroken match winning partnership of 155 with Nouman Habib, going in at number nine with us in all sorts of trouble, seven down for not very many. Well, with Nouman dealing in fours and sixes, not much running was required!

Off the field, in the bar, he is usually found drinking Red Bull, almost always in the opposite part of the room to the person collecting the match fees! His terms of payment is about 90 days. So, if you need a repair to the bodywork of your car, take it along to Mudo, apparently he's a top craftsman, and you've got three months to come up with the dosh!
