The 2003 season began at the weekend with a double header against Ashford on
Saturday and an away fixture against Chorleywood on Sunday, please see
reports below. Thursday evening practice sessions are now underway, and
everyone is welcome, especially any hockey players who fancy turning their
arm to cricket during the summer.
Saturday 1st XI Report
We batted first and scored 204-4, with Rahul Punj making 71 and Zamir Khan
62. In reply, Ashford looked the likely winners, but the introduction of
Satish Sharma into the bowling attack turned the match, as he took four
wickets for two runs, and we ran out narrow winners! Overall, it was a good
batting display, followed by a poor performance in the field and with the
ball. But, a win is a win!
Saturday 2nd XI Report
With the Chalfont Park ground looking magnificent in the spring sunshine,
Tom Richardson, Ravi Mangat and Alex Hales got the season off to a flying
start by reducing Ashford II to 60-8. They rallied to make 145 all out, but
a sparkling innings of 54 from Martin L. White, well supported by Gary
Hales, who made 34, saw us home to a comfortable victory by five wickets.
Sunday Report
We were well beaten by a strong Chorleywood XI. We batted first and limped
to 146 all out, only Zamir Khan with 65, and some lusty late order blows
from Jason Page, giving our score any respectability. We did not have enough
runs on the board and, despite a wicket each at the end for the Yoxall
father/son bowling attack, Chorleywood cruised past our total to win by five
wickets! The main highlight of our fielding display was a superb running
catch on the square leg boundary by Jason Page.
