The Sunday 2XI continued their season after last weeks narrow defeat to Datchet (see 'Massacre' in the dictionary for a report) with a home game against annual opponents Uxbridge Casuals. With the wicket looking spongy after some torrential rain in the preceding days, skipper Webb won the toss and lost the good will of his players by electing to field in blistering heat.

With Jon Lindsay opening from the Pavillion end (12-0-24-0) being more unlucky than an unlucky thing from unlucky land and Webb at the other (12-0-40-0) bowling pies, it was the introduction of Upton who made the breakthrough first ball but failed to make any further impact in his six overs. The addition of Hales, bowling spin from the Dog Kennel end, was the
turning point as he took a 5 wicket haul with a combination of spin, guile and absolute rubbish...these balls being the ones that got wickets, obviously. The lack of ability in the field cost Chalfont, with four easy catches being put down and it was Uxbridge who posted a decent total of 181-7.

And onto the batting. Pat Nagle nearly carried his bat through two successive innings, but it's best if we forget everyone elses attempts to bat early in the season (see 'Collapse' in the dictionary for an idea of the innings). Special mention must be made for the number 11 Jon Lindsay who survived the last 5 balls of the innings to provide a draw...77-9.

And so on to next week where the 2XI make dalliance with a goat and his brethren, two naked virgins and a small aubergine in a satanic ritual designed to appease the batting Gods who scowl upon us at the moment.
