The Sunday 1st XI
entertained Windsor in an exciting MASL
match. We batted first on a rain-affected
pitch and did well to make 187 all out in
39.4 overs, with Tahir Rashid (46), Justin
Weller (46) and Shahid Din (30) making the
major contributions. Windsor started well in
reply and reached 84-1 after 18 overs, but
tight bowling from Zamir Khan and Tahir
Rashid slowed the run-rate and a fine spell
from Saqib Ahmed (3-22) turned the match our
way as Windsor finished on 175-9 in 40
overs. So, victory for Chalfont by 12 runs.

NEW CHAIR FOR COACHING
COMMITTEE, SEPTEMBER 2005
Tony Eaude succeeds Lyn Goodliffe as Chair
of the National Coaching Committee from
September 2005. England Hockey is grateful
to Lyn Goodliffe for her vision and
leadership through a difficult time to take
Hockey to be one of the sports at the
forefront of implementing the UKCC (United
Kingdom Coaching Certificate).
Lyn and Tony were
founding members of a Task Force brought
together by Anne Baker in early 2002 when
hockey was in crisis. These willing
volunteers gave their time to help Hockey
reorganise the Coach Awards structure and
put tutor and assessor training in place.
This set the solid foundation from which
Hockey has been able to become one of the
leaders in the UKCC initiative. This group
then recruited further members and became an
official Coaching Committee of England
Hockey in September 2003 once the new
Association had been confirmed.
Lyn's experience as a
scUK National Trainer has enabled Hockey to
prepare the way for tutor and assessor
training and hockey has been delivering this
standardisation to the volunteer workforce
for the last 3 years. Tony has been involved
heavily with forward planning and budgeting
for the Coaching Committee, his clear
strategic thinking has been invaluable to
the group.
Tony has spent most of
his hockey life with Amersham Hockey Club,
now Amersham and Chalfont, as a player,
coach and administrator. His particular
coaching interest is in introducing young
players to the game, reflecting his
professional life as a primary school
teacher and headteacher. He now works as an
educational consultant. Tony has also been
President of Buckinghamshire CHA and a
member of the county committee for many
years, and is on South Council as Chair of
the South Development Committee.
Two other new members
join the Committee in September 2005, Mark
Scarth, a scUK Coach Development Officer
with vast tutoring and mentoring experience
(formerly the Oxford Activator) and Steve
Hardy an experienced teacher, tutor and
assessor. England Hockey is grateful to
Alwyn Twigg who steps down from the
committee but is continuing to share his
experience in coach education as a lead
External Verifier for 1st 4 Sport and an
experienced level 3 coach assessor.
The Committee will be
able to call upon Lyn's vast experience in
the future and looks forward to continuing
to be innovative an take hockey forward
under Tony's leadership in the next few
years. |
