A visit to Tring Park is
always a quality experience, especially on a
hot, sunny afternoon. A cracking flat
batting deck and fast outfield generally
ensures a tough day for the bowlers. Tring
2XI have a young side that improves with
every season, which is good to see, and you
always know you are in for a tough game -
with a few verbals thrown in for good
measure. We were not disappointed.
Batting first definitely
felt like a bonus given the hot conditions,
and Chalfont made a bright start (55 for 2
from 13 overs). Tahir Rashid (81) again
leading the way with some classy drives
through the covers and mid wicket. Progress
was maintained for the next 10 overs or so
with Zeddy Khan working the ball around
nicely to support Tahir, before a glut of
five quickish wickets really had Chalfont on
the back foot (123 for 8 from 35 overs).
Shahid Din holding firm throughout the
collapse with some excellent batting, gave
us hope - if only he could find a tail end
partner to get the innings going again.
Enter Mudo Ahmed A.K.A Jonty Rhodes! Mudo
(10 not out), is a great character to have
in the team and can be relied upon for
everything... apart from runs, really did
the business here providing fantastic
support as Shahid (70 not out) continued his
great form and slayed the bowling towards
the end of the innings. A final total of 210
for 8 from 52 overs ensured respectability,
and maximum batting points, but looked a
fair way short of par on a batting pitch.
The wicket probably quickened up in the
heat, making batting even easier for the
side coming in second, and we had the a*se
end of a couple of LBW decisions but, a
couple of batters apart, it wasn't the
greatest display. Their opening bowler
toiled for 24 overs in the sun which earned
a round of applause, and a shower hopefully.
Tea - extremely
reasonable - and the Aussies were just
starting to get battered by Bangladesh on
Sky Sports.
Into the field, and an
early wicket to give us hope, then that was
about it! Tring Park 211 for 1 from 34
overs. We didn't bowl particularly badly,
but the Tring lads just batted very
sensibly, playing through the line on a
pitch offering very little assistance.
Chalfont 10 points. Tring
Park 2XI 20 points.

CHALFONT ST. PETER U14
V PENN STREET U14
Probably the best colts
game I have witnessed was played in the
gloom at Chalfont last Thursday evening.
Penn Street won the toss
and elected to bat. After one opener was
caught behind by Robert Smalley off the
bowling of Jeremy Turner the second pair put
on 46 runs. The greater contribution was
from their opening batsman, who with
assistance from their number 4 went on to
score 94 runs (10x4's, 5x6's), a great
individual effort. The strike rate of over 7
an over was only temporarily slowed by 3
fine overs of off spin by Aman Dhatt. Their
number 6 was run out by a fine piece of
cricket by wicket keeper Tom Smalley, who
saw that he was backing up a long way, and a
direct hit at the bowlers stumps left him
yards short from safety. Best of the bowlers
was Akshay Gukati, (4-0-20-1) who eventually
clean bowled their number 1, and Jeremy
Turner (4-0-22-1), but with a total of 148
for 5 wickets, there were few bets on them
losing.
Openers Paul Neave and
Jeremy Turner got our reply off to a
brilliant start with a stand of 45 off 6
overs before Paul was unluckily caught (15
off 18) trying to force the run rate. But
they had seen off the opening spell of their
strike bowlers. Tom Smalley (7 off 5) and
Zak Cunningham (14 off 20) kept the score
board rolling, then skipper Akshay came in
when we were 93 for 4 off 14 overs. With the
score on 108, in the 16th over, Jeremy was
bowled (46 off 42, 4x4's, 1x6) and Arthur
Keyes from the U12's and Grant Bradbury
(U13's) were called upon to support Akshay,
who had decided to go for it. With 2 overs
to go, 33 was needed to win. With a 6 and 3
4's in the over, a no ball and an extra, the
target was reduced to 13 for the final over.
A 4, a 2, and a 6, and we needed one run off
the last 3 balls to win. The field closed
in, to save the single, but Akshay saved the
biggest 6 of the night for that moment. As
the ball bounced off the roof of Shabs'
equipment store, the next sound to be heard
was the Penn Street's manager's jaw hitting
the floor. He could not believe that after
scoring 148 his team would lose. That's just
over 300 runs in an U14, 20 over match.
Akshay's last 9 balls
were: 4, 6, 4, ., 4, 4, 2, 6, 6, and a total
of 45 off 22.
Jeremy's last 3 innings
are 50, 31 n.o., and 46.

TV RANGERS 9 - CP
FLAMES 29
After last weeks record
breaking performance the Flames once again
played superb softball to move themselves up
to third in the league.
The first innings set the
tone, 8 runs being scored with home runs
from both James and Chris, having listened
to Wardy's coaching tip, 'hit it to the ***
one in right field'. The fielding was
excellent with all three outs being made on
third base (including a great catch) by
Lloydy. One other highlight was watching
Chris diving to stop and Lara taking evasive
action to miss a ball drilled through second
base. TV eventually managed to scramble to 4
runs.
The second innings
effectively killed the game off with the
Flames scoring 11, batting through the order
again, with a walk, clever base hitting
(from Mark, Sara, Wotto and Charlie) and
another home run. The fielding was even
better, TV going three up and three down,
with further excellent play in the infield.
The third inning
highlight was loading the bases for Simon to
bring them all home with a Grand Slam,
before taking the field to shut them out
again. With good pitching from Sara and the
outfield (Rowie and Mark) stopping any ball
and returning it quickly to stop TV scoring
even one.
The fourth innings
brought James his third home run of the day
as the Flames cruised into a 22 run lead
after the top of the fourth, TV managed to
prolong their agony by scoring three to make
Flames lead 19 by the end of the fourth.
But they were only delaying the inevitable
and after clever base coaching from Geoff to
load the bases, the runners were brought in
by James to give him 11 RBI's for the game.
The fielding was again superb, shutting out
TV for a well deserved victory.
Congratulations to all on
another fine win, with clever batting and
excellent fielding. The Flames are looking
forward to the second half of the season and
hopefully further success.
A big thank you to Dan
(1st base coach), Geoff (3rd base coach) and
Woody for scoring. Hope you enjoyed the
game!
CHARGERS 15 - CHALFONT PARK PHOENIX 10
Well, it had to happen
sometime, maybe it was the "long" journey to
Brentford, the beautiful early evening
sunshine in our eyes, it could have been the
spooky full moon, or maybe it was because I
wasn't wearing my lucky pants, but it all
went horribly wrong for Phoenix last night!
Looking on the bright
side, if there was ever a game to play like
eejits, this was it, a cup game rather than
a league game and play like eejits we did,
so much so that there aren't really any
highlights to recount in this report! We did
visit a nice Irish pub after the game
though.
We still had our "one big
innings" but unfortunately it happened too
late, in the final inning and only served to
make the score just a little more
respectable, maybe it could have been closer
if I hadn't buckled under the pressure of
stepping up to bat with two outs and the
bases loaded, and promptly put it straight
down the throat of their pesky left fielder.
Game over.
Congratulations to me on
being voted MVP in the pub (with a whopping
2 votes!) and commiserations to Dan for
getting Donkey of the Day, believe me, there
were plenty of contenders for that one!
Thanks very much to
Martin for umpiring magnificently and to
Chris for stepping into the breach to pitch
for us.
Hopefully we can revert
to our significantly more impressive league
form in a fortnight when we have two games
on successive nights at Chalfont Park.
Finally, apologies to
Clare Winter who didn't get her well
deserved mention for MVP in last weeks
league win over FBI, because I didn't do a
report!

It was hot, real hot,
crotch pot cooking hot, and all any sane
person really wanted to do was melt with a
pint, an ice cream, and busty beauty rubbing
sun cream in to my skin... oops sorry.
Anyway, Chalfont 2's
welcomed league leaders Eversley 2's to
Chalfont Park and were rather surprised to
see they prep for the game by doing 20 mins
of stretching. Well, it was a bit cold and
they obviously didn't want to pull a muscle.
Chalfont on the other hand had a fag and a
chat!
Captain Potts won the
toss. If he did nothing else right this
season the boy did good this time and
elected to bat! The opening partnership of
Gooch and Potts was reunited again and both
senior bats were soon making the opposition
sweat. It was only in the 21st over that
Potty was caught for 29, with Chalfont
already on 76. Not that much to smile about
if you were a burning Eversley player.
Goochie had started to crash the ball around
concreting the misery upon the Eversley
players. Asim in at number 3 and was soon
looking good with some classy strokes before
he missed the straight one and was bowled
18. Goochie was out two balls later for a
cracking 78 which meant a totally new
partnership of Scott and Hewston came
together in the 30th over. A slight role
reversal saw Warren get off the mark and
push early on as Tony was struggling to get
to grips with the heat. However an
understanding was soon established and the
runs started to flow all around the ground
and also onto the 3rd fairway. Both batsmen
hit and run well and forged an unbroken
partnership of 118, with Tony finishing on
56 not out and Warren beating his previous
personal best scoring 35 not out. Chalfont's
total 252 for 3 in their 52 overs.
Tea time and it was far
too hot to eat anything, although there was
some lovely prawn and salmon sandwiches,
which on any other day would have been
scoffed down heartily. I can definitely
recommend a cold shower. And today's top tip
is always, always to carry a second jock
strap in your bag!
Chalfont opened their
attack with Mr Enthusiasm, Glenn Stephens
who believes that every ball he bowls is
worthy of a wicket, and his young prodigy
Peter (if I appeal enough I'm bound to get
something) Waters. Combined with the
incoherent bleatings from Adam behind the
stumps, Chalfont were soon looking very
village!
Not wanting to take to
much of an early initiative Chalfont put a
couple of chances down, and had to wait
until Akshay was brought into the attack in
the 12th over to claim their first wicket.
This brought to the wicket Eversley's
dangerous looking overseas player who had
definitely held a bat before. The
introduction of Tony with some loopy flight
and guile had him all of a quiver and it was
the fast yorker that had him trapped in
front LBW for 18.
The Eversley men were
looking like they didn't like the slow stuff
and so on came our slow pie chucker
extraordinaire Potty to baffle them with
slow high straights ones, one after the
other.
Loopy Hewston at the
other end enjoyed success with two more
wickets, one caught by Glen at mid on and
another caught and bowled. Potty meanwhile
managed to con the batsman into blasting one
of his high leg side pies into Akshay's
hands. Eversley had a brief period of
respite but then lost four wickets in quite
quick succession. The big hitting cowboy
lured into a swing and bowled by Tony, the
anxious looking pie eater lost his nerve and
ran himself out, another LBW by Tony which
he really didn't want to walk for saying it
wasn't fair as he hadn't scored many and
this was his last game before being posted
to Iraq, and a caught and bowled by Potts.
Chalfont were on the
verge of winning and were only temporarily
thwarted by some rather boring defence
before Glenn was brought back to find the
edge and thus seal the 25 points. Thank you
very much and good night Charlie.
A cracking win by
Chalfont but spare a thought for Eversley
who travelled miles, stood fielding in the
heat for 3.5 hours taking only 3 wickets,
got bowled out, and then had to drive home
knowing that all that work resulted in just
4 points and the submission of their top
spot in the league. Arghhhhh!
