A&C BADGERS FIRST MATCH
The A&C Badgers played
their first match on Tuesday night against
Aylesbury. With a great mix of youth and
experience the team set off without Captain
Jim Keenan in midfield (delayed arrival),
instead relying on the young Simon Archer to
drive the midfield play. Within minutes a
pattern of pass and move had been
established with Simon finding gaps through
to the wider players and despite not having
too much penetration into the opposing D, a
great deal of possession was maintained by
the side.
Men's Thirds Captain
Simon Beedell and Chris "Gobby" Yoxall
showed that the defensive future of the Club
is in solid hands as they kept Aylesbury
pinned outside the 25 at all times, and used
pace and power to intercept and keep the A&C
attack on the front foot. It took a while,
but towards the middle of the half Danny
Thomas started to get good ball fed into his
well timed runs, and using Alex Bagehot and
Tom Richardson on the wings started to push
the advantage home.
With the building
pressure, the midfield slowly got the upper
hand and several well controlled passing
moves led to opportunities on goal. It was
eventually a sweeping move down the left
that gave the Badgers their opening goal and
was always likely to lead to more.
As Aylesbury gained in
stature they started to get the ball into
the heart of the defence and had several
great opportunities to attack the goal, but
at centre back Tim Gossage showed great
experience and nerve to take hold the
attack, and then clear under pressure,
always making sure that control of the ball
was retained by A&C. This gave a solid
platform for A&C to eventually regain
control and towards the end of the half were
able to set Ben Smith away in the D a couple
of times to test the left back and then
keeper.
It was an encouraging
start for the Badgers who gained in
confidence and style throughout the match
and who will be looking for more opposition
in coming weeks. Thanks should go to
Aylesbury for being such good opposition in
a great and evenly fought game, thanks to
Guy who umpired and Watsy, Jim, Charlie and
Painey who gave some extra "experience" to
the side and Watsy for arranging the
fixture!

into a custom written administration site.
BOYS U13'S
The under 13's lost two games this week
to two very strong sides. Beaconsfield in
the conference and Chesham in the cup.
Batting first against Beaconsfield, we were
restricted to 78 for 6 by some very good
bowling. The boys fielded and bowled
extremely well and it was not until the 17th
over that they got the winning runs.
In
the cup game against a very strong Chesham
side we were resticted to 63. Chesham had a
very strong bowling side and to be fair it
was great bowling rather than poor batting
that put us in a tough position.
The
boys again showed great spirit with a good
bowling performance early on but we did not
have enough runs on the board. Pleasing to
see only one wide bowled though.
This week we are at home on Sunday with a
10am start.
Thanks to Jonathon for your support all
season and it was great to see Dan coaching
the lads on Friday. We will be coaching
again from 5.30 to 7.00 this Friday.

It was a time of great
battle.
It was time for those that came to stand up
and be counted.
It was a time for warriors.
Gerrards Cross visited
the hallowed ground of Chalfont on Sunday,
only to return to their six bedroom
mansions, expensive cars and army of
servants empty handed, having been
comprehensively beaten by the warriors from
the train stationless village.
Chalfont old boy, Charles
Cemlyn-Jones, who has crossed to the
darkside, opened for GX, but the mighty
power of Lindsay had him rocked, edging it
behind twice - only to be dropped. A charmed
life indeed was led by this town dweller.
Yoxall, from tiny St
Peter, took first blood, the
Cinema-laden-town opener lofting to Hales.
Lindsay then got his angry head on and
dispatched the dark-lord-of-the-Cross with a
perfect yorker. Webb got in on the act,
bowling his finest pies and taking two
wickets. But Chalfont were woeful in the
field, and shall be summoned to fielding
practice early for the next three weeks.
Dropped catches, bad pick-ups, no long
barrier - you name it, we did it. GX saw
their battered opponents were down and
declared on 206-4.
A generous total
considering the batting line up. Then
disaster, Collins and Scott out in
consecutive overs, 4-2. Then came the
fireworks. Hales (G) and Hales (A) opened
their shoulders and smashed ball after ball
from the ground, Chalfont looking to be
cantering to the target when they were out
going for big shots for 81 and 88. Andersen
and Yoxall fell cheaply, before Webb,
playing what can only be described as 'not a
cricket shot' and more like 'violent
swinging' made 14* to guide the village to
victory over its better known, but less
salubrious neighbour, by 3 wickets.
They may have the cinema,
but we have the win!

Last week against Bledlow
we only had four bowlers and got away with
it, but it was our Achilles Heel this week
against a strong Burnham team.
Playing for the first
time at Burnham's new purpose-built and
lottery-funded ground, we won the toss and
batted first on a cool afternoon. Despite an
excellent track and a fast-scoring outfield,
we struggled against some tight bowling and
had to settle for 181-5 from our 40 overs.
Justin Weller top scored with 46, well
supported by Zamir Khan with 36 not out.
Burnham's openers
struggled against tight Chalfont bowling and
some unusually tight fielding, and at 60-1
from 18 overs it was game on. At this point
their star batsman came to the crease
(previous two innings: 190 v. Beaconsfield
and 130 v. Gerrards Cross - that is him on
his own, not his team ...). However he
succumbed to a serious bout of
over-confidence and top-edged to backward
square - another notable scalp for Zeddy!
Now it was definitely game on, and Burnham
had still only reached 110-3 after 27 overs.
However, our four main bowlers only had four
overs left between them, and this proved to
be the crucial factor as Burnham accelerated
away to 185-5 after 34 overs.
So, defeat by five
wickets, but a fine effort against strong
opposition.

Reading 2nd XI were the
visitors to Chalfont Park on Saturday. These
guys have been regular under achievers since
entering Division 2B a few seasons ago,
always talented in the batting and bowling
departments but generally finishing low down
the league at the end of the season.
Reading, on winning the
toss, decided to bat on a green but flat
wicket. The Chalfont track, in my opinion,
can appear in many forms during a season,
sometimes green, sometimes yellow/white,
sometimes more grass than others, but
generally still plays the same. Prior to the
start Satish, obviously spying the
opportunity to fetch out a few of the old
tweaking leg spinners at some stage during
the game, decided the boundary rope had been
laid out too short following the youth team
in the morning and promptly shifted it back
20 yards. There's definitely no substitute
for experience.
Walking out to field,
albeit in lovely surroundings, with only 8
team mates as two of the boys didn't get to
the ground until an hour after the start, is
not the most inspiring feeling. This
certainly showed as Reading cruised through
the first 12 overs (58-0), through no lack
of effort from the opening bowlers Saqib
Ahmed and Shahid Din. A full complement of
players obviously lifted the team as
Chalfont fought back into the match taking 3
quick wickets to slow the run rate. The
first innings turned out to be a see-saw
affair, Reading having a good start,
Chalfont then looked as though they had
restricted the opposition to around 150,
before the biggest bloke in the world
started crashing it around like 250 wouldn't
be an issue. Typical of the season so far
Chalfont dug in and produced a great last 12
overs to bowl out Reading for 172 in the
49th over. Fariq Ahmed (4-20) bowled a fine
spell from the golf course end, er hang on,
to rip out the last four wickets cheaply.
A fine tea. Only spoilt
by Saqib (The King Dong), using all his
experience to sit quietly at the sandwich
table for 5 mins, patiently waiting for me
to get the kitchen counter then all of a
sudden from the other room - 'two sugars in
mine mate'. Every chuffing time.
Into bat with the
confidence that winning brings, nobody in
the side really feeling anxious chasing the
target. Another solid start (60-2 from 13
overs) giving Chalfont every chance of
success, Tahir Rashid leading the way with
some quality batting, well supported by Zed
Khan (26). A couple of quick wickets fell
but Tahir (81) continued his free scoring
and Shahid Din (40 not out), looking in
great form, cracked the ball around to
ensure a comfortable win (174 for 5) from 43
overs.
Chalfont 20 points.
Reading 2XI 8 points.
