Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, March, 2008

Committee Meeting, Monday, 10th March, 2008

  • Present: Dan Webb (chairman), Tom Day, Ben Kunicki, Jonathan Lindsay, Dave Nolder, Gareth Noot, Phil Noot, Andy Parsons
  • Apologies: Mudho Ahmed, Martin Crossley, Tony Hewston, Mandeep Gill, Razaq Ishaq, Zamir Khan, Murray Scott, Matthew Stevenson

Matters Arising

  • 3rd XI ground at Beaconsfield: Tony Hewston is still trying to ascertain the availability and cost of the ground for Sunday 3rd XI matches.
  • CPSA Board report: Andy Parsons reported that there has still been no feedback from the CPSA Board re the possibility of restarting the life membership scheme.
  • Artisan membership: Dan Webb reported that, further to the life membership scheme above, he was also considering an artisan membership scheme, whereby members who worked on the outfield or square would pay a reduced membership fee.

Cricket Report

  • Indoor nets: these have been going well with 18 players at the first session; Mandeep Gill is trying to arrange an extra lane for next week.
  • Match day management packs: Dan Webb said that he had made no further progress on this matter.
  • Cricket Force weekend, 2008: Dan Webb reported that this will take place on the weekend of 4th to 6th April. There will be a social evening at the club on the Friday, followed by work parties on the Saturday and Sunday. Dan Webb will organize a list of tasks, Mandeep Gill will organize a skip, Keith Neave will deal with the dead tree, and Matthew Stevenson will send out a publicity email to the membership.
  • Teas: Dan Webb suggested that it should be possible to produce a good tea for no more than £50; however, with a very poor attendance of tonight’s meeting by the captains, it was not possible to discuss this matter further.

Fixtures Report

  • 2008 fixtures: Dave Nolder reported that he had filled most of the dates apart from six away fixtures for the Sunday 3rd XI; he plans to enter the fixtures onto the club web site in the near future.
  • Possible clashes with softball: Dan Webb reported that there may be a clash between some junior fixtures and softball during 2008, and took the action to try to resolve matters amicably with Neil Turner.
  • Fixture booklets: Dave Nolder took the action to design the booklets.
  • President’s Day: Matthew Stevenson was unable to attend the meeting but let it be known that he had not made any further progress on this matter; Friday, 8th August is the provisional date at the moment.

Ground Report

  • Square: Dan Webb reported that the grass is looking patchy and may have a fungal infection. Rolling work needs to begin soon.
  • Outfield: Dan Webb reported that all the moles have now been killed, and Keith Neave has been cutting the grass.
  • Finances: Dan Webb reported that, further to matters documented in previous minutes, we have £2000 from CPSA to fund work on the ground this season. The plan is to do pre-season and end-of-season work ourselves and to employ Shabir Ahmed as groundsman for five months only, from mid April to mid-September. It is therefore estimated that we will need to find £900 to fund the cost of the groundsman’s wages in 2008.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Recent bills: Matthew Stevenson listed the outstanding bills which he was aware of as follows: TVCL balls and handbooks @ £677 payable by 30th April; junior balls @ £64.50p payable in April/May; the annual ECB affiliation fee @ £70 which is already overdue; TCSL balls @ circa £100 expected in April/May.
  • Current balance: Murray Scott was unable to attend the meeting but reported that we currently have circa £900 in the bank, with outstanding invoices of circa £980, leaving an estimated deficit of circa £80; however, this figure does not include the proceeds from the club kit promotion currently being run by Mandeep Gill.
  • Annual Dinner 2005: Andy Parsons reported that the cricket section still owed CPSA £881 from this event; this has been a long saga but, in a nutshell, the accounts for the year ended 30th September, 2006, show a profit for this event of £1175, a figure which did not include the catering invoice from CPSA. This is an internal matter and the cricket section will repay CPSA as soon as it is able to do so.

Fund Raising Report

  • Annual Dinner: Andy Parsons reported that he has begun making plans for this event on Saturday, 19th April.

Development Report

  • ECB courses: Matthew Stevenson is doing the GL5 umpiring course, Keith Neave is doing a coaching course and Mudho Ahmed starts a coaching course next month.
  • CRB checks: Ben Kunicki reported that no further progress had been made on this matter.
  • Clubmark status: Ben Kunicki reported that we will not be able to achieve clubmark status until we resolve the issue with the CRB checks above.
  • Development plan: Ben Kunicki reported that no further progress had been made on this matter.

Any Other Business

  • Poor attendance of committee meetings: Dan Webb expressed disappointment that no representatives from the Saturday 1st XI, 2nd XI or 3rd, or the Sunday 1st XI, had attended tonight’s meeting. He reminded the captains that, if they are unavailable to attend a meeting, they must send someone on their behalf, be it the vice captain or someone else. He reiterated the warning given at the AGM that further non-attendance could result in the dismissal of a captain from his position.
