Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, 13th August, 2007

  • Present: Matthew Stevenson (acting chairman), Tariq Gulfishan, Tony Hewston, Razaq Ishaq, Jonathan Lindsay, Keith Neave, Dave Nolder, Andy Parsons
  • Apologies: Mudo Ahmed, David Banner, Ben Kunicki, Murray Scott, Dan Webb

Matters Arising

  • TVCL Disciplinary re Tony Hewston: Matthew Stevenson reported that he and Tony Hewston had met Wilson Carlisle, Chairman of the TVCL Disciplinary Committee, to discuss the disciplinary incident at Farnham Common last season; Tony Hewston has not yet decided whether to accept the suspended ban or appeal against it.
  • TVCL Complaint re Chalfont Park square: Matthew Stevenson reported that he had met Mike Salmon and Barry Hatch of the TVCL Grounds Committee to discuss the condition of our square and our plans for future improvement.
  • President’s Day: Matthew Stevenson reported that this event had been a great success apart from an unfortunate misunderstanding with the caterers, which resulted in no lunch being provided and the bar being closed until mid-afternoon.
  • 3rd XI ground: it was agreed that we should use Richings Park as our 3rd XI ground for the TVCL next season as it was the only realistic option given the requirement to be up and running by May next year - see ground report below.

Cricket Report

  • 1st XI Captaincy: Saqib Ahmed has resigned as 1st XI captain for personal reasons and Mandeep Gill has taken over with immediate effect
  • TVCL reports: Mandeep Gill reported that, despite failing to win its last two matches, the 1st XI is presently top of Division 2B with four matches to go; Razaq Ishaq reported that the 2nd XI is placed fourth out of ten in Division 4A and seems to have now recovered from a mid-season slump.
  • Friendlies: in addition to the two league XIs, we have continued to field four friendly XIs, a Saturday 3rd XI and three Sunday XIs. The Sunday 1st XI has now won its first TCSL match of the season and has also beaten Chesham in the quarter-final of the County Cup competition. Tariq Gulfishan reported that the Saturday 3rd XI was undefeated and looking forward to playing league cricket next season.
  • Juniors: Keith Neave reported that junior season had been decimated by the poor weather in June and July.
  • TVCL administration: Matthew Stevenson reported that the 1st XI has incurred more fines for match-day administration; Mandeep Gill promised to get on top of this matter.
  • Selection: Matthew Stevenson said that he did not think the club selection policy was working as well on Sundays as it appears to be doing on Saturdays - specifically, he felt that there was no communication between the respective captains; Keith Neave agreed and said that he felt that some of the Under 17 players might be ready for an opportunity in the Sunday 1st XI.

Ground Report

  • Richings Park: Keith Neave said that he would discuss our plans with Richings Park and report back to the committee as soon as possible: he foresaw problems with football matches at the beginning and end of the 2008 cricket season, and added that a significant amount of money would need to be spent on the square. Tariq Gulfishan offered to sponsor this work to the value of £500.
  • Chalfont Park square: there was general agreement that the pitch used for President’s Day, and the next two days as well, was the best so far this season; Matthew Stevenson said that he would ask Dan Webb to chair a sub-meeting, with David Banner and any other interested parties, to discuss the end-of-season work as soon as possible.
  • Chalfont Park outfield: the outfield is recovering very well from the moles problem earlier in the season but the picket fence is still in need of repair.
  • Machinery: in the absence of David Banner there was nothing further to report.
  • Practice facility: Mandeep Gill has taken over management of this project; we have enough money to buy the netting @ £450 and a second mat @ £1200, and it was agreed that we should proceed with this as soon as possible.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Financial report: in the absence of Murray Scott, and with a lot of monies coming in and out, a precise statement of the club’s financial position was not available; however, it is thought that we will have very little money left after purchasing the netting and matting for the practice facility.

Fund Raising & Social Report

  • Indian Barbecue: Andy Parsons reported that this event had generated a profit of £520.
  • Casino Night and Club 6-a-side Tournament: Andy Parsons reported that the Casino Night had been postponed in order to concentrate on the Club 6-a-side Tournament on the August Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August.
  • Annual Dinner: Tony Hewston suggested that this event should be held earlier rather than later after the end of the cricket season, and offered to help Andy Parsons with the organization.

Other Business

  • AGM: Matthew Stevenson reported that Ben Kunicki had suggested holding the AGM in the autumn rather than in the new year; it was agreed that this would be a good idea.
  • Website updates: Matthew Stevenson reported that the Content Management System is still not available.
  • Tom Dodd snr: Matthew Stevenson reported the sad news that a former stalwart of the club, Tom Dodd snr, had died.
