Matters Arising
- TVCL Disciplinary re Tony Hewston: Matthew Stevenson reported that Tony Hewston had been cited by the TVCL following a complaint by Farnham Common about his behaviour in a 2nd XI match last August (and some other incidents in previous matches between the clubs). An internal disciplinary hearing was called. The committee decided that Tony Hewston had indeed used foul language and threatening behaviour, but only under extreme provocation from a Farnham Common player; it therefore decided to warn him about his future conduct and to stress that it expected all players representing the club to observe the Spirit of Cricket. However, the committee was also concerned that the TVCL had not followed its own procedures in dealing with Farnham Common’s complaint, most obviously failing to give the cited player right of reply and failing to consider the views of both clubs. The committee also decided that it would cite Mr. Zahir Khan of Farnham Common for his behaviour in the same match. See attached written reports from Martin White and David Peters.
- Cancelled 3rd XI Match: Dave Nolder reported that he had written a letter of apology to Pinkneys Green re our failure to notify them that the 3rd XI match at Richings Park on 16th June had been rained off.
- TVCL Complaint re Chalfont Park square: Matthew Stevenson reported that we had received a complaint about the standard of our pitches this season, based on a formal complaint from Boyne Hill C.C. and poor marks from the TVCL panel umpires; he reported that a full reply had been sent to the TVCL and we were now awaiting their response.
Cricket Report
- TVCL: the 1st XI is presently placed second out of ten in Division 2B but our last two matches have been rained off; the 2nd XI is placed sixth out of ten in Division 4A and has also had its last two matches rained off.
- Friendlies: in addition to the two league XIs, we have been fielding four friendly XIs, a Saturday 3rd XI and three Sunday XIs. The Sunday 1st XI has not yet won a match in the TCSL this season.
- TVCL administration: Matthew Stevenson reported that we had been fined twice recently for failure to send in umpires’ cards - he will discuss this matter with Saqib Ahmed.
- Teas: it was agreed that the teas have been much improved recently; however, Raf Mughal had some concerns about the lack of vegetarian options and the committee authorized him to speak to the caterers directly on this subject.
Ground Report
- Square: in the absence of the groundsman and 1st XI captain there were no further discussions on the state of the pitches at Chalfont Park.
- Outfield: all the moles have now been killed but concerns were expressed about a) why the outfield does not seem to be being cut right back to the picket fence, b) the mess in the groundsman’s area around the storage containers and c) the state of the picket fence. Re the latter, Matthew Stevenson asked everyone to try to prevent cricket balls being deliberately hit against the fence during practice sessions.
- Machinery: in the absence of David Banner there was nothing further to report.
- Practice facility: Dan Webb reported that there had been no further progress - we still need to purchase netting @ £450 and a second mat @ £1200. Keith Neave expressed the view that the matting should not be stuck down but rather rolled up and brought inside at the end of the season.
Treasurer’s Report
- Financial report: in the absence of Murray Scott there was no financial report.
Development Report
- Ben Kunicki said that he would like to set up a development sub-committee and meet on a fortnightly basis; it was proposed that this sub-committee should comprise himself, Dan Webb, Keith Neave and perhaps Chris Yoxall if he is willing.
Fund Raising & Social Report
- Indian Barbecue: Andy Parsons reported that this had been a great success and had raised circa £350.
- Future events: Andy Parsons reported that he was planning another Indian Barbecue, a Casino Night on Saturday, 11th August and a Club 6-a-side Tournament on the August Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August.
Other Business
- Website updates: Matthew Stevenson reported that the Content Management System is still not available.
