Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, 4th June, 2007

  • Present: Dan Webb (chairman), Mudho Ahmed, Saqib Ahmed, Shabir Ahmed (part time), David Banner, Shazi Chughtai, Mandeep Gill, Tariq Gulfishan, Razaq Ishaq, Jonathan Lindsay, Raf Mughal, Dave Nolder, Andy Parsons, Matthew Stevenson
  • Apologies: Ben Kunicki, Tony Hewston, Keith Neave, Murray Scott

Matters Arising

  • Vacant positions: Tariq Gulfishan has taken on the role of Saturday 3rd XI Captain.
  • Fixtures on club website: Matthew Stevenson reported that he had added all the fixtures for the Saturday 1st XI, Saturday 2nd XI and Sunday 1st XI. Dave Nolder has added most of the Saturday 3rd XI, Sunday 2nd XI and Sunday 3rd XI fixtures, but there is some doubt whether all the 3rd XI matches which have been played have been entered - Matthew Stevenson said that this information would be very useful for the treasurer when he comes to reconcile the match fees, so Dan Webb promised to reconcile all the 3rd XI matches which have been played with the fixture details on the club website.
  • Statistics on club website: Matthew Stevenson reported that the statistics had so far only been entered for the Saturday 2nd XI and Sunday 1st XI; the captains of the other teams all promised to get their data entered as soon as possible.

Cricket Report

  • TVCL: the first XI has had an excellent start to the season and is currently top of Division 2B - our bowlers have been in top form and have helped us to three victories in low-scoring matches on some poor pitches (see below). The 2nd XI has also had a good start to the season (playing in a higher division this year after last season’s promotion) with two wins and a draw from its first four matches in Division 4A.
  • Friendlies: in addition to the two league XIs, we have been fielding four friendly XIs, a Saturday 3rd XI and three Sunday XIs. The Sunday 1st XI began the TCSL season with a defeat yesterday against Windsor.
  • Selection: there was a long discussion about how the selection process should work, but no definite conclusions were drawn.
  • 3rd XI ground: Jonathan Lindsay is still investigating the possibilities at the National Society for Epilepsy; meanwhile, we have been using the Richings Park ground for 3rd XI matches and there is a possibility that this could become a long-term solution - we are greatly indebted to Keith Neave, who has been preparing the wickets.
  • 3rd XI in TVCL: it was agreed that everything is in place to proceed with the plan to enter our 3rd XI in the TVCL next season; Matthew Stevenson will inform the TVCL of our plans.
  • TVCL administration: Matthew Stevenson reported that there have been no "avoidable" TVCL fines so far this season; however, we are being fined £10 every week because the 2nd XI does not have an umpire and are likely to also be fined because the 1st XI does not have a scorer. Razaq Ishaq asked if we have any regular umpires at the club - Matthew Stevenson said that he would check on Sam Machin’s availability.

Fixtures Report

  • Fixture booklets: Dan Webb reported that the fixture booklets have now been printed.

Ground Report

  • Square: there was a long discussion on the preparation of pitches at Chalfont Park, including how best to use the covers, with David Banner and Shabir Ahmed present; it was agreed that, although the pitches have been poor, we should review matters again in a month’s time.
  • Outfield: David Banner reported that all but one of the moles has now been killed, and the outfield is recovering well.
  • Machinery: David Banner expressed some concern about mowers being taken to Richings Park to prepare 3rd XI pitches; Dan Webb said that this will no longer be a problem as there is now a lawn mower in situ at Richings Park.
  • Practice facility: Dan Webb reported that one lane is now operational, but we still need to purchase netting @ £1200 and a second mat @ £450. He added that, although we are presently short of funds, he saw no reason why we should not be able to complete the project soon.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Financial report: in the absence of Murray Scott there was no financial report.

Fund Raising & Social Report

  • Casino Night: Andy Parsons reported that there will be an Indian Barbecue on Saturday, 23rd June, a Casino Night on Saturday, 11th August and an internal six-a-side tournament on Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August; Mandeep Gill offered to help with the organization of the latter.

Other Business

  • Website updates: Matthew Stevenson reported that the Content Management System is still not available.
  • Jack Rickard: David Banner reported that Jack’s ashes will be scattered on the Chalfont Park ground and that his family would like to purchase a bench for the ground in his memory; it was suggested that the club should honour his memory by purchasing a second bench to go alongside the first one.
