Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, 30th April, 2007

  • Present: Present: Dan Webb (chairman), Mudho Ahmed, Shazi Chughtai, Tony Hewston, Razaq Ishaq, Ben Kunicki, Jonathan Lindsay, Raf Mughal, Dave Nolder, Andy Parsons, Matthew Stevenson
  • Apologies: Saqib Ahmed, Mandeep Gill, Keith Neave, Murray Scott

Matters Arising

  • Vacant positions: Ben Kunicki has taken on the position of Club Development Officer, Shahid Din will be Sunday 1st XI Vice Captain, and Keith Neave will be Sunday 3rd XI Captain; this leaves one vacant position still to be filled - that of Saturday 3rd XI Captain.
  • 1st XI Fixture Secretary: Matthew Stevenson suggested that a 1st XI Fixture Secretary would be a good idea, and nominated Raf Mughal for this position; however, Dan Webb said that he preferred to either leave things as they are, or split the role on a Saturday/Sunday basis; it was agreed to leave things as they are for the time being, and to review matters as the season progresses; Tony Hewston suggested that we find another role on the committee for Raf Mughal.
  • Indoor nets: Tony Hewston explained why there had been no indoor nets in the 2007 pre-season (double booking problems at Chalfont Leisure Centre); Raf Mughal suggested that we book some slots at Harrow school for next winter - he will check on availability and prices and report back to the next meeting.
  • Cricketforce: Dan Webb reported that this had been a great success - there was a decent turnout on both days and all the tasks were completed, with the exception of tidying up the groundsman’s area.

Cricket Report

  • First weekend: the first matches this weekend brought mixed results, with a defeat for the Saturday 1st XI, wins for the Saturday 2nd XI and Sunday 2nd XI, and a defeat for the Sunday 3rd XI; availability has been fairly good and it looks like we will have enough players for three XIs on both Saturdays and Sundays.
  • 3rd XI ground: Jonathan Lindsay is investigating the possibilities at the National Society for Epilepsy, and Tony Hewston is doing likewise at Richings Park.
  • TVCL administration: Dan Webb will distribute his checklist to the new captains and vice captains - it is essential that we avoid fines this season.
  • Statistics page on club web site: Matthew Stevenson will get userids for Raf Mughal and Razaq Ishaq so that they can update the database regularly.

Fixtures Report

  • Fixtures on web site: The TVCL fixtures have been uploaded automatically; Dave Nolder has not yet entered the rest of the 2007 fixtures but will hopefully do so in the near future.
  • Fixture booklets: Dan Webb reported that the first batch of booklets had been printed, but unfortunately in the wrong size - Keith Neave is getting them re-printed.

Ground Report

  • Square: there was a discussion about what seemed like excessive watering of the square for the practice match but, in the absence of any ground representatives, no conclusions were drawn.
  • Outfield: Dan Webb reported that two of the moles have been killed, but three are still active.
  • Practice facility: Dan Webb reported that no further progress had been made due to funding difficulties - two mats will cost £2500 and we do not have as much money as we previously thought (see below); it was agreed that just one mat should be purchased to at least get the facility up and running.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Current balance: in the absence of Murray Scott, our exact financial position was unclear; Matthew Stevenson will ask Murray Scott to circulate a financial report; Andy Parsons added that the CPSA Board has asked for a monthly statement from each of the sections.
  • Junior match fees and subscriptions: Jonathan Lindsay said that he thought that there was still a lot of money outstanding from the juniors from last season; Dan Webb asked him to pursue these matters.

Fund Raising & Social Report

  • Casino Night: Andy Parsons reported that he was provisionally planning a Casino Night on Saturday, 26th May - more details to follow.

Other Business

  • Web site updates: Matthew Stevenson reported that Neil Turner is writing a Content Management System to make updating the web site easier.
  • Teas: the general feeling was that the teas provided by the new caterers were okay, but Tony Hewston expressed some concerns about variety and volume.
