Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, 27th September, 2006

  • Present: Dan Webb (chairman), David Banner, Tony Hewston, Keith Neave, Andy Parsons, David Peters, Murray Scott, Matthew Stevenson (Saqib Ahmed, Mudho Ahmed and Neil Turner attended part of the meeting only)
  • Apologies: Dave Nolder, Phil Noot, Rahul Punj, Chris N. Yoxall

Matters Arising

  • Trophies: Tony Hewston said that trophies had been engraved at a cost of £118.
  • ICI Paints covers: Dan Webb reported that we had purchased ICI Paints’ covers at a cost of £500, and transported them to the ground at a cost of £200.
  • ICI Paints players: Saqib Ahmed reported that six players were definitely joining next season; Matthew Stevenson suggested a meeting, sooner rather than later, to discuss captaincy roles for next season.
  • 3rd XI ground: Murray Scott suggested that Wexham Park might be available - Dan Webb said that he would ask Jonathan Lindsay to investigate. Dan Webb said that the National Society for Epilepsy (NSE) ground is another possibility. Neil Turner said that a second ground for softball practice and matches would be very useful but it needed to be reasonably local to Chalfont Park. It was agreed that a groundshare option might be a more realistic option for the 2007 season.
  • 3rd XI in TVCL, 2007: Dan Webb asked Matthew Stevenson to discuss the clubs plans with the TVCL.

Ground Report

  • Square: David Banner reported that the end of season work on the square had been completed, with extensive scarifying and spiking, and more grass seed and top dressing used than in previous years. He reported that the cost of the materials was £1024. He expressed the opinion that the main problem with the square was that there was too much compaction, which meant that there was a lack of root growth to hold the wickets together. He proposed soaking the square with a hydro-jet, which would cost £300, when the square starts to germinate. He was also optimistic that the covers would help produce better wickets.
  • Machinery: David Banner reported that two of the mowers needed new blades, at a cost of £100 each; however, he said that he thought the scarifier blades were okay at the moment.
  • Moles: David Banner reported that he had not yet been able to resolve this problem.
  • New practice facility: there has been no further progress on this project.

Cricket Report

  • Saturday 1st XI: Matthew Stevenson reported that three consecutive wins and then a defeat with good bonus points helped the 1st XI to finish 8th out of 10 and miraculously escape relegation from Division 2B of the TVCL.
  • Saturday 2nd XI: David Peters reported that the 2nd XI had finished 2nd out of 10 in Division 5B of the TVCL and had thus earned promotion to Division 4 for next season.
  • Sunday 1st XI: Matthew Stevenson reported that the Sunday 1st XI had finished the season strongly with some good wins in friendly matches after the end of the MASL season.
  • Sunday 2nd XI: Dan Webb reported that the Sunday 2nd XI had finished the season with four wins. He thanked Pat Nagle for skippering several matches.
  • 3rd XI: Dan Webb reported that eight matches had been played, with a further two rained off.
  • President’s Day: Matthew Stevenson said that this year’s event had been disappointing, with availability problems in the President’s XI and wet weather on the day.
  • Review of objectives: Tony Hewston led a review of the objectives agreed at the beginning of the season: many objectives were met, but several, especially some 1st XI ones on administration and integration, were not.
  • Annual Awards: the awards were agreed by the committee and will be published after the annual dinner in November.

Fixtures Report

  • Fixture secretary: Dan Webb said that he had someone in mind for this position; Matthew Stevenson suggested that the role could reasonably be split between 1st XI and 2nd/3rd XI matches.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Current balance: Murray Scott reported that, after paying for the covers and their transportation, the current balance was circa £3100.
  • Match fees: Murray Scott reported that most of the match fees were up-to-date, the main exception being the last couple of Sunday 2nd XI matches; Dan Webb said that he would pay this money in at his earliest convenience.
  • Indian Barbecue: Dan Webb reported that the £120 of monies outstanding from this event (£60 owed by both Zamir Khan and Mudho Ahmed) had still not been paid in.
  • Annual Dinner Dance 2005: Murray Scott was finally able to report that the profit figure for this event was £378.

Fund Raising Report

  • Annual Dinner: Andy Parsons reported that he had begun making plans for this event on Friday, 24th November.

Any Other Business

  • Eric Earnshaw and Rex Butcher: Matthew Stevenson reported that, sadly, two of the club’s Vice Presidents, Eric Earnshaw and Rex Butcher, had recently died.
