Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, 10th July, 2006

Present: Dan Webb (chairman), Tony Hewston, Keith Neave, Dave Nolder, Phil Noot, David Peters, Matthew Stevenson, Chris N. Yoxall

Apologies: Mudo Ahmed, Saqib Ahmed, Andy Parsons, Murray Scott

Matters Arising

  • Trophies: David Peters reported that he now had all the names for the award winners over the last three years, but that two trophies were still missing; Tony Hewston offered to help with the engraving.
  • Overseas players: Tahir Rashid has been delayed by various matters but is expected to arrive in the next few days and to be available to play on Saturday; Adil Irfan is still waiting for his passport and has not played much this season due to injury.
  • Fixture booklets: Dan Webb reported that this season’s booklets had been printed without advertisements; Matthew Stevenson said that he had sent a fixture booklet to all the honorary life members and voce presidents.

Cricket Report

  • Juniors: Phil Noot reported that the league matches were now finished and that all the teams (Under 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15) had done well. We have now fielded an Under 10 team, in a six-a-side competition, for the first time, and Keith Neave suggested that we should field an Under 17 XI next season. Keith Neave said that he thought that several players in the Under 13 XI were looking especially promising.
  • Seniors: the Saturday 1st XI is currently placed bottom of TVCL Division 2B - key players from last season have been absent and/or injured and this has weakened the team; David Peters reported that, by contrast, the Saturday 2nd XI is currently placed top of Division 5B of the TVCL, and availability has been very good during the last few weeks; the Sunday 1st XI has recovered from a poor start with two good victories in recent weeks, but availability has been poor; results for the Sunday 2nd XI have likewise picked up in recent weeks, with two victories; and the 3rd XI has played four matches so far, three defeats and a draw, but there are promising signs with lots of juniors getting their first taste of senior cricket.
  • TVCL & Neal Collins: Dan Webb reported that there had been a disciplinary incident in the 1st XI home match against Marlow Park on 24th June, as a result of which Neal Collins was reported to the TVCL by the panel umpires. In accordance with the club’s constitution, an internal disciplinary hearing was held and it was unanimously agreed that, despite the fact that a member of the opposition had provoked him, Neal Collins had contravened both the club rules about personal conduct and also the Spirit of Cricket. It was therefore unanimously agreed that he should be banned from all club matches for the rest of the season, put on probation for the 2007 season, and expelled from the club completely if he transgresses again. Dan Webb said that he would inform the TVCL of the club’s decision, prior to their own forthcoming disciplinary hearing, at which both the club and the player may face further disciplinary action.
  • TVCL & fines: Matthew Stevenson reported that the 1st XI has once again failed to do its administration correctly (this time it is the umpires’ cards which have not been returned properly) and now faces disciplinary action from the TVCL; this could be a fine and/or a points deduction. It was agreed that the 1st XI players should be asked to cover the costs of the fines between themselves.

Fixtures Report

  • President’s Day: Matthew Stevenson reported that the date of Friday, 18th August has now been confirmed; Matthew Stevenson will make the catering arrangements, the selection committee will select the club XI, and the president, Sam Machin, will organize his XI.

Ground Report

  • Square: Matthew Stevenson said that the square was playing much as usual i.e. slow and low with occasional erratic bounce; more financial investment will be required if we want better pitches.
  • Moles: there has been no further progress on the moles; David Banner is still trying to deal with the problem.
  • New practice facility: Dan Webb and Keith Neave are hoping to put down a topping to level out the unevenness on the surface; Dave Nolder reported that he had made no further progress re quotations for scaffolding poles, netting and matting.
  • Picket fence: Dan Webb said that he would organize a work party this Saturday morning to complete the painting of the picket fence with used engine oil, and to replace the missing panels.

Development Report

  • Grant: Chris N. Yoxall reported that he had secured a further grant of £492 from Chiltern District Council towards junior kit.
  • Biffa: Dan Webb reported that capital grants of up to £5000 are available for clubs within 10 miles of a Biffa household waste site; he asked Chris N. Yoxall to investigate further.
  • Clubmark status: Dan Webb said that Keith Neave and Jenny Brown must attend a Child Welfare course by the end of the year.
  • Development plan: Dan Webb reported that we were on target to complete the 1-year plan, but more work was needed on the 3-year and 5-year plans.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Subscriptions: Dan Webb reported that, thanks to good availability and a tough stand from the selection committee, there are only one or two debtors and they are not presently being selected.
  • Match fees: in the absence of Murray Scott, the exact state of play on match fees is not known, but it is thought that they are reasonably up-to-date.
  • Current balance: Murray Scott has let it be known that the current balance is approximately £1000.

Fund Raising Report

  • Indian Barbecue: Dan Webb reported that this event had been a great success and had made a profit of £420.
  • Cricket Foundation Quiz: it was decided that we would not run this event this year.
  • Junior Presentation Evening: Keith Neave said that he was planning an event on Friday, 21st July, involving a cricket match, presentation of the annual award trophies, and a barbecue.

CPSA Board Report

  • AGM: At the recent AGM of Chalfont Park Sports Association, Dan Webb was elected as Chairman, Jenny Brown as Financial Director and Keith Neave as Marketing Director; this gives cricket a very good representation at board level.

Any Other Business

  • Clubhouse keys: Phil Noot said that the present situation, with internal keys missing and certain rooms and cupboards inaccessible, was making life very difficult for the junior section, especially. Dan Webb said that the matter was a high priority and would be discussed at the next board meeting.
