Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, 17th August, 2005

Present: Matthew Stevenson (chairman), Saqib Ahmed, Zamir Khan, Dave Nolder, Andy Parsons, David Peters, Rahul Punj

Apologies: Murray Scott

Matters Arising

• Annual award trophies: David Peters reported that Zamir Khan had returned the Bowling trophy but he was still trying to retrieve the Sunday 2nd XI trophy from Dave Andersen; he suggested that trophies should remain at the club in the future.
• Fixture booklets: Zamir Khan said that they are now being printed and should be available for President’s Day.
• Ground action points: in the absence of David Banner there were no updates on the various ground issues, namely quotations for a new storage facility, the plan to spray the picket fence with an oil-based substance, and protecting the wiring for the electronic scorebox.
• Party in the Park: Andy Parsons reported that arrangements for the junior cricket match were in place.
• ECB Coaching Courses: Rahul Punj said that he had not yet booked himself onto a course.
• New practice facility: there was another long discussion on this subject; Dave Nolder provided some detailed quotations (see attached); Rahul Punj said that he was making good progress on sponsorship for this project; Matthew Stevenson said that the profit from the Cricket Foundation Raffle and the Indian Barbecue/Casino Night had kick started the project fund; Matthew Stevenson said that work parties would be required throughout the close season if this project is to be completed by the start of the 2006 season.
• Bar and catering: Taylormade have resigned now resigned their catering contract as well.

Cricket Report

• Results and availability: the 1st XI has an outside chance of promotion from Division 2B of the TVCL; the 2nd XI likewise has an outside chance of promotion from Division 5B; the Sunday 1st XI was having a good run in the MASL prior to last weekend’s cancellation against Beaconsfield (see below); the Sunday 2nd XI has been playing regularly.
• MASL match v. Beaconsfield, 14th August: Matthew Stevenson said that he was very unhappy that we had cried off this match on the Saturday evening and made it clear that this must not happen again – he said that matches should never be cried off after Thursday evening.
• President’s Day 2005: Matthew Stevenson said that the club XI and the catering arrangements had been finalised; Sam Machin is organising the President’s XI.
• TVCL Complaint from Stoke Green: Stoke Green reported us to the TVCL after our 1st XI match in July for cutting the pitch between innings; we were not guilty – the groundsman had been using the cutter/roller machine, with the blades switched off, to roll the pitch – and the TVCL absolved us of blame, although they did warn us to get prior permission from the umpires before doing this again.
• Saturday 1st XI Captain: Zamir Khan announced that he will be resigning from this position at the end of the 2005 season, but added that he would be prepared to be vice captain next season and will give his successor every assistance.

Ground Report

• Square, ground and machinery: in the absence of David Banner there was no report.
• Work parties: Matthew Stevenson said that the work parties should also treat the picket fence with an oil-based substance and remove the (smelly) carpets from the two men’s dressing rooms.

Finance

• Fixture booklets 2004: Zamir Khan said that he will pay over the outstanding £100 with the 2005 monies.
• Match Fees 2005: it is believed that these are pretty well up-to-date.
• Annual subscriptions 2005: the outstanding debtors are Neal Collins, Muhammad Kassam and Malcolm Upton.

Fund Raising & Social

• Indian Barbecue and Casino Night: Matthew Stevenson said that this event had generated a profit of £340.
• Cricket Foundation Raffle: Matthew Stevenson said that this had generated a profit of £479.
• End of Season Dinner: Matthew Stevenson said that he had reserved Friday, 25th November in the club diary for this event; catering arrangements will be finalised nearer the time.
• Another Barbecue: Saqib Ahmed and Rahul Punj will look into the possibility of organising another barbecue on the last Saturday of the TVCL season (3rd September)

CPSA Board Report

• Youngs Brewery Loan: Matthew Stevenson reported that we have some problems with the terms and conditions of this loan because we have not been drinking enough beer - approximately 25% of the agreed barrelage – and there may be serious financial implications.

Next Meeting

• Next meeting: Wednesday, 14th September, 2005, 8.00pm in the clubhouse.
