Chalfont St. Peter Cricket
Club: Minutes, 13th October, 2004
Present: Matthew Stevenson (chairman), Saqib Ahmed, Zamir Khan, Phil Noot,
David Peters, Murray Scott, Dan Webb, Chris N. Yoxall
Apologies: Mike Burge, Rahul Punj
Matters Arising
• Cricket balls: Zamir Khan said that the cricket balls, which he has
ordered from Pakistan, will arrive during the winter.
• Ground Rep: Matthew Stevenson reported that, since the last meeting, David
Banner had resolved some of his differences with the club and had agreed to
take on the role of Ground Director on the CPSA Board; it is not clear what
his future role, if any, will be on the cricket committee.
• Flex pitches: Dan Webb said that each pitch costs £1900 but there were ECB
grants available; Matthew Stevenson encouraged him to follow this up, but
did comment that he had tried, several times and without success, to get an
ECB grant in the past.
• ECB coaching courses: Matthew Stevenson said that Keith Neave had
expressed a desire to go on one of these courses and that he was in the
process of applying; the club will cover the cost of £90.
Cricket Report
• Annual dinner: Matthew Stevenson said that he was currently finalising
plans for the event on Friday, 22nd October; the response has been quite
good so far. The winners of the annual awards, decided at the last meeting,
were as follows:
o Club batsman: Shazi Chughtai
o Club bowler: Zamir Khan
o Club fielder: Simon Gooch
o Clubman: Shabir Ahmed
o Saturday 2nd XI player: Asif Raza
o Sunday 1st XI player: Rahul Punj
o Sunday 2nd XI player: Dave Andersen
o Outstanding batting performance: Satish Sharma
o Outstanding bowling performance: Saqib Ahmed
o David Eade award (2nd XI catches): Dan Webb
o Most promising young player: not awarded this year
o Six hit award: Justin Weller
• Overseas Players, 2005: Matthew Stevenson reported that he had had a
meeting with Adnan Khan, who played for us in the 2002 season. Adnan said
the following:
o He has completed his ECB equivalent Level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications;
o He has resolved the issues he had with his visa in 2003;
o He has some accommodation lined up in Hillingdon, and another
accommodation option in Slough;
o He would like to return to the club as a junior coach/overseas player in
2005.
• Matthew Stevenson said that he had made it clear that the club could not
provide any assistance with expenses, accommodation or transport. It was
agreed by the committee that a coach for the juniors was probably the one
thing that the club needs above all else and that, disregarding some
reservations about a) his visa and b) transport between his accommodation
and the ground, we should invite Adnan to be our junior coach and one of our
two overseas players in 2005.
Ground
• Square: the end of season work on the square has been completed.
• Work parties: Matthew Stevenson said that he would arrange a work party in
the near future, with the following tasks in mind:
o Remove some overhanging branches, most especially the one which is now
blocking the electronic scoreboard;
o Repair the one broken/faulty panel on the electronic scoreboard;
o Replace a few broken pickets on the fence;
o Repair the shower in the home dressing room, which is hard to turn off;
o Try to get rid of the unpleasant smell from the home dressing room;
o Paint the walls in both dressing rooms and the corridor;
o Fill in some of the holes in the car park.
Fixtures
• Next year’s fixtures: Dan Webb said that he would start work on the 2005
fixtures next month. Zamir Khan repeated his request for more Sunday 1st XI
fixtures in the early part of next season. Matthew Stevenson repeated that
he would like to see more inter-club events, such as the power cricket day
and, possibly, an Over 40s v. Under 40s match.
Finance
• Match fees: Dan Webb said that he had sent the outstanding Sunday 2nd XI
monies to Murray Scott, who said that he had not yet received them; Matthew
Stevenson asked them to resolve this matter one way or another as soon as
possible.
• Current balance: Murray Scott reported that the current balance is
approximately £1200; Matthew Stevenson said that there was approximately
£150 expenditure on the horizon (ECB coaching course, framed photograph, new
scorebooks and TVCL fines).
• Annual subscriptions: Matthew Stevenson said that Shazi Chughtai had now
settled his debt, but that Amit Puri, Neal Collins and Dean Page have still
not paid.
Fund Raising
• Future events: Matthew Stevenson asked Saqib Ahmed to organise at least
one winter fund raising event. The next CPSA event is the Fireworks Party on
Saturday, 6th November.
• Fixture booklets: Zamir Khan said that we should start selling the
advertising for next year’s booklets in the new year; he also said that he
was hoping for a better response from the members this time.
CPSA Board Report
• Spring Ball monies: Matthew Stevenson said that he had been unable to
resolve this issue; Zoe Scott is quite reasonably adamant that the money is
owed, but determining who should be accountable for the four unpaid tickets
has proved problematic. Matthew Stevenson told Zamir Khan to expect a
telephone call from Zoe Scott on this subject in the near future.
• CPSA membership: Matthew Stevenson outlined Alison Spicer’s proposal to
“rebrand” the annual subscriptions as a rolling club membership.
• First aid courses: Matthew Stevenson said that Heidi Frick, from the
hockey section, will be running some first aid courses during the winter,
and hoped that as many cricketers as possible would participate.
Any Other Business
• Next meeting: Wednesday, 17th November, 8.00pm in the clubhouse.
