Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, 15th September, 2004

Present: Matthew Stevenson (chairman), Saqib Ahmed (part time), David Banner (part time), Mike Burge (part time), Zamir Khan (part time), Phil Noot, David Peters, Rahul Punj (part time), Dan Webb, Chris N. Yoxall (part time)

Apologies: Murray Scott

Matters Arising

• Power Cricket Day: Matthew Stevenson said that this had been a very enjoyable day, although it was relatively poorly attended; he thanked Dan Webb for his efforts, and hoped that we would have another event next season, ideally in early or mid season, rather than at the end.
• Fixture booklets: Zamir Khan has paid in the remaining £700 on the fixture booklets.
• Cricket balls: Zamir Khan said that the cricket balls, which he has ordered from Pakistan, have not yet arrived but are expected in the near future.

Ground

• End of season work: David Banner said that the end of season work was almost complete: the square has been scarified and all that is left is to put the topsoil on; he estimated the cost of materials as £700.
• Levelling the ends: David Banner said that we could level the ends i.e. try to remove the bowl effect at a cost of circa £150; Paul Gethin, who cuts the outfield, would be prepared to do this job.
• Outfield mower: David Banner reported that the cylinders needed replacing and estimated the cost at £500; Matthew Stevenson asked David Banner to get a formal quotation and to then forward it to Chris Blamey, CPSA Ground Director.
• Ground Rep: David Banner resigned from the committee with immediate effect, saying that he was fed up with being “taken for granted” by the club. Matthew Stevenson said that he was very disappointed that he felt this way, but thanked him for his efforts on the club’s behalf over many years. David Banner then left the meeting.
• Snag list: Matthew Stevenson said that the following items need doing, in no particular order of importance:
o Remove some overhanging branches, most especially the one which is now blocking the electronic scoreboard;
o Repair the one broken/faulty panel on the electronic scoreboard;
o Replace a few broken pickets on the fence;
o Repair the shower in the home dressing room, which is hard to turn off;
o Try to get rid of the unpleasant smell from the home dressing room;
o Paint the walls in both dressing rooms and the corridor;
• Practice facility: there was another long discussion on how to improve our practice facilities; Dan Webb said that the ECB had some “flex” pitches to give away; Matthew Stevenson asked him to make some enquiries and report back to the next meeting.

Availability & Results

• Results: the Saturday 1st XI finished 7th out of 10 in Division 2B of the TVCL, which should be good enough to avoid relegation; the Saturday 2nd XI finished 9th out of 10 in Division 4B, which means that they will almost certainly be relegated. The Sunday 1st XI finished the season with a run of defeats as availability tailed off; the Sunday 2nd XI had a good season without repeating the remarkable run of victories, which they had in 2003.
• TVCL administration: the 1st XI has continued to incur fines, for frustrating things like not sending in the result sheet on time. Matthew Stevenson said that he thought it likely that we will now face disciplinary action from the TVCL. David Peters suggested that assigning the administration to one of the 1st XI players, rather than the captain, who already has so much on his plate, may resolve this problem next season.
• Juniors: Phil Noot said that Keith Neave and one or two of the other parents of the juniors might be interested in going on an ECB coaching course; Matthew Stevenson asked him to make some enquiries and report back to the next meeting.

Fixtures

• Sunday 1st XI fixtures 2005: Zamir Khan reiterated that he thought that we should have more early season fixtures next season; Matthew Stevenson said that this was fine, but expressed some reservations about whether we would have good enough availability.
• Other fixtures: Matthew Stevenson said that he would like to see two inter-club events next season, an Over 40s v. Under 40s match and the Power Cricket Day.

Finance

• Match fees: Matthew Stevenson said that, as far as he was aware, the match fees were all up to date with the exception of the Sunday 2nd XI; Dan Webb said that he would arrange for the outstanding monies (£212) to be sent to Murray Scott as soon as possible.
• Expenses: Phil Noot said that he had incurred circa £30 of expenses during the season.
• Current balance: bearing in mind all the above, Matthew Stevenson estimated the current balance to be circa £1500.
• Annual subscriptions: Matthew Stevenson said that the debts for Salman Khan and Sohail Ijaz should be written off as they would appear to have left the club; if they become available again next season, then they will be asked to pay up for this season (2004) and the next one (2005) before they are selected to play. The other debtors are Shazi Chughtai (part), Neal Collins, Jonathan Lindsay (part), Dean Page and Malcolm Upton; Matthew Stevenson said that he would chase up Shazi Chughtai and Dean Page; Dan Webb will chase up the others.

Fund Raising

• There are no fund raising events currently planned.

Social Report

• End of season dinner: Matthew Stevenson said that he had finalised the date for this event - Friday, 22nd October, 7.30pm in the clubhouse, and had agreed a menu and cost with Taylormade; Mike Burge said that he would now take over the promotion of this event. The Annual Awards will be presented to the winners from the last three seasons as, for one reason or another, they were not presented in 2002 and 2003. The 2004 awards were agreed, but will not be published until the October minutes, in order to maintain an element of surprise for the Annual Dinner.

CPSA Board Report

• Spring Ball monies: David Peters reported that there are still four cricket debtors from this event. Matthew Stevenson said that he would continue to chase Shazi Chughtai. There is some doubt about who should be accountable for the other three tickets, which are officially allocated to Raf Mughal, Shabir Ahmed and Rahul Punj. Matthew Stevenson acknowledged that this was an awkward situation, as it is not clear whose responsibility the debt is, but he asked Zamir Khan and Rahul Punj to try to resolve this by the next meeting.

Any Other Business

• Next meeting: Wednesday, 13th October, 8.00pm in the clubhouse.
