Chalfont St. Peter Cricket
Club: Minutes, 13th July, 2004 Present: David Peters (acting chairman), Saqib Ahmed, David Banner, Mike
Burge, Zamir Khan, Chris N. Yoxall
Apologies: Murray Scott, Matthew Stevenson
Saturday 1st XI captaincy
• Zamir Khan offered his resignation with immediate effect, citing lack of
support from the players re helping with administration and ground duties;
there was a long debate about this, involving some of the other 1st XI
players (Satish Sharma, Rhys Mander, Andy Parsons and Shazi Chaughti
participated in this discussion) but nothing was resolved.
Matters Arising
• Euro 2004 Quiz: this was a complete failure and was abandoned; monies have
been refunded to the eight people who did fill out entries.
CPSA Board Report
• Bar deliveries: Chris Yoxall reported that the problems with bar
deliveries being left in the garage, and making it difficult for Paul Gethin
to get the mower out, have not yet been resolved.
• Storage facilities: David Banner said that we need better storage
facilities to look after the new machinery which we now own, and recommended
that we put up a new garage where the storage containers now stand. There
are several issues here relating to a) what type of building to put up, b)
how much it would cost and c) our obligations to Peter Glen, who leases one
of the containers from the club. David Peters asked David Banner to make a
detailed proposal to the CPSA Board.
Cricket
• Availability: this has been good in the 1st XI but not in the 2nd XI; we
have not yet managed to get the Saturday 3rd XI going.
• Results: the Saturday 1st XI has been playing well without getting any
more wins, and is now placed in the bottom half of TVCL Division 2B. The
poor availability has made life very difficult for the Saturday 2nd XI and
they now face a relegation battle at the bottom of Division 4B. The Sunday
1st XI has had mixed results but lots of good, closely fought matches in the
MASL, and the Sunday 2nd XI is playing every week and recently broke a long
sequence without a win.
• TVCL administration: we are still getting too many fines; it is hard to
see a resolution to not having umpires and scorers, but failing to send in
result sheets is inexcusable.
• Juniors: in the absence of Phil Noot, there was no report.
• President’s Day: Matthew Stevenson is organising both the Club XI and the
President’s XI, and both are taking shape.
Finance
• Match fees: in the absence of Murray Scott, it was not clear whether these
were all up to date.
• Annual subscriptions: the main debtors at the moment (of those who have
played three or more matches) are Raf Mughal, Salman Khan, Rahul Punj,
Sohail Ijaz, Jonathan Lindsay, Malcolm Upton and John Woods; David Peters
will send out a spreadsheet to all the captains detailing who has paid in
full, who has paid in part, and who has not yet paid.
• Fixture booklets: GBP300 of sponsorship money has been banked, the
remaining £700 is still outstanding; Zamir Khan promised to pay over this
money at the weekend.
• Cricket balls: we have now almost run out; Zamir khan promised to get some
more balls from Pakistan as soon as possible.
Fund Raising
• Euro 2004 Quiz: this has not been a success; in the absence of Saqib
Ahmed, the exact state of play was not known.
• ECB raffle: the tickets have now been distributed to club members.
• Summer barbecues: Saqib Ahmed reported that, although it was not
especially well attended, the first event had made a profit of £80; two more
events are being arranged for later in the summer.
Social Report
• End of Season Dinner: Mike Burge said that he would discuss the
arrangements with Taylormade.
Ground
• Square: the square is still playing quite well, apart from one 1st XI
match when it had been wet during the week and then hot sun on the day made
it “pop” dangerously.
• Outfield: the problems with “leather jackets” and moles remain; it would
be beneficial to spray the outfield with weedkiller but this will cost
approximately £200.
• Boundary rope: David Banner said that the boundary rope was still not
always being put away properly after matches.
• Covers: David Banner said that he had chased up the company who is making
the frames for us but there seems little prospect of them being completed in
the near future.
• Wilson Bowden ground: David Banner said that, after much thought, he did
not think that the prospect of making the Wilson Bowden ground playable for
cricket was financially viable; he will report this to the CPSA Board prior
to their August meeting.
• Grass nets: David Banner reported that the grass nets had been ruined by
people playing in them when it was too wet to do so.
• Mobile frame: David Banner reported the mobile frame had now been
delivered.
Any Other Business
• Next meeting: Wednesday, 10th August, 8.00pm in the clubhouse.
