Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club: Minutes, 16th June, 2004

Present: Matthew Stevenson (chairman), David Banner, Zamir Khan, Rahul Punj, Dan Webb (part time), Chris N. Yoxall

Apologies: Saqib Ahmed, Mike Burge, David Peters, Murray Scott

Matters Arising

• Clubhouse keys: this issue now seems to have been resolved, although Chris Yoxall reported a problem with the alarm not being set correctly.
• Overseas players: we have two overseas players after all, Adil Irfan and Javaid Ali, both from India; the club has no commitment to them other than free match fees and transporting them to/from the club.

Cricket

• Availability: this has been much better recently; we are fielding two XIs on Saturday and two on Sunday, and hope to get a Saturday 3rd XI out soon as well.
• Results: the Saturday 1st XI’s results have been a little more patchy recently, but we are still well placed near the top of TVCL Division 2B; the Saturday 2nd XI has had a couple of wins recently and is placed in mid table of Division 4B. The Sunday 1st XI has won one and lost one in the MASL so far, and the Sunday 2nd XI is going well with matches every week.
• Juniors: in the absence of Phil Noot, there was no report; however, it is understood that we have lost players recently due to poor quality practice facilities. Zamir Khan said that he saw no reason why the overseas players should not coach the juniors on Saturday mornings.
• President’s Day: this has finally been confirmed for Friday, 6th August.

Ground

• Square: the general opinion was that the square is playing very well, far better than expected; this is down to hard work from Shabs and various helpers, and a new (second hand from Gerrards Cross Golf Club) mower/scarifier machine, which is proving highly effective.
• Outfield: this looks to be in fairly good condition, although the problems with “leather jackets” and moles remain.
• Bar deliveries: the problems with bar deliveries being left in the garage, and making it difficult for Paul Gethin to get the mower out, have not yet been resolved, but the CPSA board is aware of the problem.
• Wilson Bowden ground: the CPSA board has asked the cricket committee to consider whether establishing a 3rd XI ground is financially viable. Establishing a 3rd XI and entering it the TVCL is part of the cricket development plan. However, after a long discussion, it was agreed that the Wilson Bowden ground could only be financially viable if it could generate some additional revenue, for example, from football pitches.
• Covers: Rahul Punj suggested that we could make some frames with an angle grinder and 5x4 man days’ effort. Matthew Stevenson asked him to check with Andy Watts re how the other initiative is progressing, and whether we could use our own manpower to speed up delivery.
• Grass nets & mobile frame: further to the comment above about losing juniors because of poor practice facilities, David Banner said that he had started work on two grass nets to accompany the existing facility, which can be dangerous at times due to Irregular bounce. He also said that he had ordered a mobile net, to be used on the square, @ £640; he hoped that the club would be able to repay him over time.

Finance

• Match fees: these are all up to date.
• Annual subscriptions: the main debtors at the moment (of those who have played three or more matches) are Shazi Chaughtri, Raf Mughal, Salman Khan, Mudo Ahmed, Rahul Punj, Sohail Ijaz, Nick Davenport, Jonathan Lindsay, Malcolm Upton and John Woods; these players are all now liable for the £10 surcharge, increasing to £20 after 1st July.
• Fixture booklets: GBP300 of sponsorship money has been banked, Zamir Khan promised to chase up the rest in the next week or so.

Fund Raising

• Euro 2004 Quiz: this has not been a success; in the absence of Saqib Ahmed, the exact state of play was not known.
• Summer barbecues: Saqib Ahmed has organised the first event for Saturday, 3rd July.

CPSA Board Report

• Various issues were discussed during the evening, including keys, alarms, deliveries of drinks and storage capacity for machinery. Chris Yoxall will report back to the next CPSA board meeting.

Any Other Business

• Next meeting: Tuesday, 13th July, 8.00pm in the clubhouse.
