Chalfont St. Peter Cricket
Club: Minutes, 19th May, 2004 Present: Matthew Stevenson (chairman), Saqib Ahmed, David Banner, Rahul
Punj, Dan Webb
Apologies: Zamir Khan, David Peters, Murray Scott, Chris N. Yoxall
Matters Arising
• Open day & club supper: the open day was a success with several new
members coming down; the club supper in the evening was poorly attended by
the cricketers, which was disappointing.
• Clubhouse keys: Matthew Stevenson said that he had asked Chris Blamey to
provide three new key sets for the junior managers.
• TVCL Captains Meeting: Zamir Khan was unable to attend this meeting and we
have duly been fined £20.
• Fixture booklets: the booklets have now arrived and are very good; Zamir
Khan will collect the sponsorship monies as soon as possible.
• Overseas players: we will probably not have any overseas players this year
due to visa problems.
Cricket
• Availability: this has been a little patchy in the early weeks of the
season; we have not yet fielded a Sunday 1st XI, but the three other teams
have played all their matches, weather permitting.
• Results: the Saturday 1st XI has started very well, winning three and
drawing one of its four matches so far; the Saturday 2nd XI has not fared so
well, losing both its matches so far with weakened teams; the Sunday 2nd XI
has had a good start with two wins and two defeats from four matches.
• Teas: the teas are of a very high quality and have been well received by
everyone.
• Bar: the bar has been open during and after matches, and those who used to
man it have been greatly enjoying not having to do so this season!
• Juniors: in the absence of Phil Noot, there was no report; however, it is
understood that one of the teams, the Under 13s, is struggling because a
manager has not been found amongst the parents, as had been hoped.
Finance
• Match fees: these are all up to date apart from the first Saturday 1st XI
match at home to Ashford and the Sunday 2nd XI match skippered by Neal
Collins. However, there seems to be a worrying trend of players owing money
from one week to the next, which makes life hard for the captains.
• TVCL balls and handbooks: this bill has been paid.
• Annual subscriptions: Matthew Stevenson reiterated that there would be a
surcharge for anyone who failed to pay their annual subscriptions by 1st
June, and that priority in selection will be given to those players who have
paid their subscriptions after this date.
Fund Raising
• Euro 2004 Quiz: Saqib Ahmed said that this would be launched this week.
• Summer barbecues: Matthew Stevenson asked Saqib Ahmed to organise some
dates for these events as soon as possible.
Ground
• Square: Matthew Stevenson said that so far it had played as well as we
could have hoped; David Banner will purchase 25 bags of topsoil @ £4 each,
seed @ £100 and some white liner (so far, he has bought some but not all of
these items); he will also speak to Gerrards Cross Golf Club re wormkiller,
the cost is expected to be circa £200.
• Outfield: Matthew Stevenson said that the outfield looked reasonably good
although not as good as last year, for example, there are clumps of cut
grass left lying around; but he added that we have to understand that we now
have an external contractor cutting the grass and he is not paid to do the
extra work which David Banner has done in recent seasons. David Banner also
said that there were “leather jackets” on the outfield, and a chemical @
circa £100 was needed to get rid of them.
• Roller: David Banner and Shabir Ahmed took the roller apart and repaired
it last week, a monumental three day task. Matthew Stevenson thanked them
for their efforts and invited them to go out for dinner at the club’s
expense as a token of our gratitude. David Banner said that we may still
need to purchase a replacement roller or engine in the not too distant
future.
• Mowers: these have now been repaired and a bill of £250 has been received
and paid.
• Boundary rope: David Banner asked the captain of the last match played
over the weekend (usually but not always Sunday) to make sure that the
boundary rope is brought in and put away, to make life easier for Paul
Gethin when he cuts the outfield.
• Bar deliveries: David Banner said that there were problems with bar
deliveries being left in the garage, because it made it difficult for Paul
Gethin to get the lawn mower out; Matthew Stevenson said that he would raise
this matter with the CPSA board.
• End of season work: Matthew Stevenson asked David Banner to make some
plans for the autumn re what machinery is required and how best to use work
party labour.
• Non turf wicket: Dan Webb raised the possibility of putting down a non
turf strip on the edge of the square; Matthew Stevenson said that we had
considered this in the past, but there were as many cons as pros and the
most likely venue for a non turf pitch would be a 3rd XI ground if we can
secure one.
Fixtures
• Midweek: Dan Webb said that he was leaving the midweek fixtures open at
the moment and would assess demand over the next few weeks.
• Indian touring team: Saqib Ahmed said that Bashir Ahmed wanted to hire the
ground for the Indian touring matches again this summer; Matthew Stevenson
said that he needed to finalise the dates as soon as possible, bearing in
mind that there are several external events in the diary this summer, and
also said that we would want the money in advance this time.
• President’s Day: Dan Webb said that he had still not been able to finalise
a date with Sam Machin.
• “Power” Cricket Day: Dan Webb said that he was organising this event, an
internal six-a-side competition, for Saturday, 11th September; the
possibility of an Indian barbecue in the evening was discussed; Matthew
Stevenson asked Dan Webb to liaise with the hockey committee because he
thought that they were staging their own open day events over this weekend.
Any Other Business
• Next meeting: Wednesday, 14th July, 8.00pm in the clubhouse.
