Chalfont St. Peter Cricket
Club: Minutes, 14th April, 2004 Present: Matthew Stevenson (chairman), Mike Burge, Phil Noot, David Peters,
Rahul Punj, Murray Scott, Dan Webb, Chris N. Yoxall
Sandra Taylor and Peter Broom from Taylormade, and Caroline Chipperfield
attended the first part of the meeting only to discuss tea and bar
arrangements.
Apologies: Saqib Ahmed, David Banner, Zamir Khan, Patrick Nagle
Matters Arising From Previous Minutes and AGM
• Open Day: Matthew Stevenson said that the fliers had been sent out; he
thanked both Andy Watts for putting them together and Caroline Chipperfield
for covering most of the costs with sponsorship and advertising, and
confirmed that plans for the day were all in place. Mike Burge said that he
had sold one extra table for the cricketers for the club supper in the
evening; the response had been slightly disappointing but it is difficult to
sell such an event “out of season”.
• Outstanding debtors: Gareth Noot has paid his annual subscription, which
was owed from last season.
Tea and Bar Arrangements
• Teas: there was a discussion between Taylormade and the cricket committee
about tea arrangements, most notably notification of cancelled and
rearranged matches. Matthew Stevenson said that the fixtures will be
published on the club web site and a list of contact details put on the
notice board in the bar. Taylormade will invoice CPSA separately for the tea
monies, so the captains will not be required to pay over the monies after
home games.
• Bar: it was agreed that the bar should be opened on Saturday and Sunday
lunchtimes.
• Review: it was agreed that Taylormade would attend the next cricket
meeting to review the first weeks of the season.
Ground Report
• Outfield: we have had some problems with machinery not working and then
the new contractor, Paul Gethin, going across rather than round the square,
but things seem to be working smoothly now.
• Square: Rahul Punj and Shabir Ahmed have been working hard on the square.
Again, we have had problems with machinery not working, but these have now
mainly been resolved, apart from the mower which does the closest cut. Chris
Blamey is getting this machine repaired at the moment and it should be
available soon.
• Roller: the roller is working at the moment and the oil leak seems to be
manageable, but sooner or later it will need to be repaired properly.
• Moles: there has been no further progress re dealing with this problem;
the action point is still on the Gerrards Cross Golf Club groundsman.
• Work parties: Matthew Stevenson reported that the work parties had been
reasonably well attended and certainly very productive.
• Covers: there has been no further news on when the frames may be
delivered.
Cricket Report
• Overseas players: Zamir Khan was not at the meeting but it was understood
that the two players are expected to arrive in the UK soon.
• Juniors: Phil Noot said that we were running five teams this year, at
Under 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15; he also said that he had recruited a couple of
parents to help with the organisation of teams.
Treasurer’s Report
• Current balance: Murray Scott said that this was at present £87.
• Match fees: it was agreed that these should remain £10 (or £5 for
concessions) for the Saturday 1st and 2nd XIs, and £8 and £4 for all other
teams (Saturday 3rd XI, Sunday 1st and 2nd XI, midweek XI).
• Cricket balls: Matthew Stevenson will chase Zamir Khan re the 24 balls
which he was going to get from Pakistan.
• TVCL handbooks and balls: Matthew Stevenson said that he had received a
CPSA cheque from Peter Banner and would pay for and collect them from the
TVCL meeting at Slough C.C. next week.
Fund Raising Report
• Fixture booklets: Matthew Stevenson said that he understood from Zamir
Khan that these were progressing well, despite various problems with the
printing.
• Euro 2004 Quiz: there was no report in the absence of Saqib Ahmed.
Social Report
• Aside from the club supper (see above), Mike Burge had nothing to report.
Fixtures Report
• President’s Day: Dan Webb said that he had agreed a date of Friday,
16th July with Sam Machin; however, unfortunately, there was a clash in the
social diary with an external booking, so Matthew Stevenson asked him to go
back to Sam and try to arrange another date.
• Sunday 2nd XI tour: Dan Webb said that he was making plans for a weekend
tour in early August.
CPSA Report
• Teas: Chris Yoxall said that he had communicated the cricket section’s
concerns re how the costs of the teas will be reported in the annual
accounts.
• Clubhouse keys: Chris Yoxall said that he had requested one for Shabir
Ahmed, and now understood that he also needed to request one for Phil Noot.
Any Other Business
• Next meeting: this will take place on Wednesday, 19th May, 8.00pm, in the
clubhouse.
