Chalfont St. Peter Cricket
Club: Minutes, 18th February, 2004
Present: Matthew Stevenson (chairman), Saqib Ahmed, David Banner, Zamir
Khan, David Peters, Rahul Punj, Murray Scott, Dan Webb
Apologies: Phil Noot, Chris N. Yoxall
Matters Arising From Previous Minutes and AGM
• Award trophies: David Peters said that he had recovered three more of the
trophies, which leaves three still missing. Matthew Stevenson said that we
should put off engraving and presentation until the missing trophies have
been recovered.
• Indoor nets: Saqib Ahmed said that he had still not managed to arrange any
indoor nets; Brunel University is fully booked, he will try Chalfont Leisure
Centre next.
• Missing photograph: the photograph, which was lent to the TVL re the
Burnham disciplinary incident, has still not been returned. David Banner
said that the person to chase was Trevor Wood, of the Home Counties Premier
League; Matthew Stevenson agreed to take this action point.
• AGM: the meeting was well attended and the four new positions of Ground
Manager, Fund Raising Manager, Teams Manager and CPSA Board Rep were all
filled.
Cricket Report
• Overseas players: Matthew Stevenson said that Buckinghamshire University
College had been in touch to say that they were making a second attempt to
start their Cricket Diploma course, and possibly had a number of overseas
players from Sri Lanka looking for games on a Saturday. Zamir Khan said that
he hoped to get two overseas players from India, one for the 1st XI and one
for the 2nd XI, with no financial or accommodation commitment to the club.
Matthew Stevenson said that Adnan Khan had been in touch re playing for us
again in 2004, but he would need free accommodation and this was not
available at the moment. It was agreed that Zamir’s option was the best one
for the club. Matthew Stevenson will write to Buckinghamshire University
College and try to keep that option open as an alternative, and will also
send an email to Adnan Khan telling him the current position.
• Juniors: in the absence of Phil Noot, there was no report.
Treasurer’s Report
• Current balance: Murray Scott said that the current balance was £80.
• Bank account: David Peters said that he would arrange for a cricket
account to be opened with Barclays; we are currently still using the old
NatWest account, which is inconvenient for a number of reasons, including
changing the authorised signatures and transferring money to and from the
CPSA account.
Fixtures Report
• Progress: Dan Webb said that he had had a couple of cancellations, which
had set him back a bit, but the fixture lists were almost complete.
• President’s Day: Dan Webb said that he had not yet agreed a date with the
club president, Sam Machin.
Ground Report
David Banner is going abroad for two months and gave the following handover
report:
• His father, Peter, will manage all ground affairs during his absence. He
will also keep a spare key for the container.
• Thatch: the chemical to remove the thatch has still not been applied but
hopefully will be in the near future.
• Square: Shabir Ahmed will take on the role of square groundsman in 2004; a
sum of £3500 was agreed.
• Outfield: we have three quotations to cut the outfield: from Chenies
Landscapes, from Paul, the assistant groundsman at Gerrards Cross Golf Club,
and from Peter, the Taylormade barman. The committee felt that Paul was the
best option because he has the professional skills and enthusiasm to do the
job well. The quotations include the Wilson Bowden football pitch; the
cricket committee would be quite happy if a different contractor was used
for the football pitch.
• Roller: the idea of replacing the diesel engine with a petrol one has,
temporarily at least, been discarded. Zamir Khan and Shabir Ahmed will fit
the “short term solution”, an aluminium tray to catch the leaking oil,
within the next week.
• Moles: David Banner will chase up the Gerrards Cross Golf Club groundsman
re dealing with the moles problem on the far side of the outfield.
• Sightscreen parts: we have £500 worth of parts, from last year’s insurance
claim, to make a third sightscreen. David Banner estimated that we would
need a further £150 of parts to make the sightscreen. However, we currently
have neither the financial resource nor the available labour to do this, so
it was agreed that a work party should be arranged to move them into the
back of the container. David banner said that there was some other stuff in
the container, such as lighting from the old squash courts and old
machinery, which needs to be cleared out and thrown away first to create the
space. Rahul Punj took the action to organise an appropriate work party.
• Covers: there has been no further news on when the frames may be
delivered.
Fund Raising Report
• Fixture booklets: Zamir Khan reported that these are progressing well.
Advertisements will need to be in by the end of February, and a final
fixture list will also be needed at this time. Saqib Ahmed said that it
would be nice to get some more advertisements from Chalfont St. Peter based
businesses.
• Euro 2004 Quiz: Matthew Stevenson brought Nigel Shaw’s template form to
the meeting and handed it over to Saqib Ahmed, who will try to produce an
electronic form. Matthew Stevenson said that this event will need to be
promoted in May.
• ECB Raffle: Matthew Stevenson said that he would order tickets for this
event again this year and suggested that it should be promoted in July and
August.
• Summer barbecues: Saqib Ahmed said that he would look at the fixture list
and choose two or three appropriate dates for these events.
Social Report
• In the absence of Mike Burge, there was no report.
Any Other Business
• Honorary life members proposal: it was agreed that David Peters will
propose that Martin Stevens and Eric Stevenson should be made honorary life
members of the club at the next CPSA board meeting.
• Next meeting: this will take place on Wednesday, 17th March, 8.00pm, in
the clubhouse.
