Chalfont St. Peter Cricket
Club: Minutes, 7th May, 2003 Present: Saqib Ahmed, Mike Burge, Martin Cartledge, Simon Gooch, Tony
Hewston,
Zamir Khan, Matthew Stevenson, Dan Webb
Apologies: David Banner, Murray Scott
Matters Arising From Previous Minutes
• TVL ground and pitch markings: these have now been published in the 2003
handbooks, we came 44th out of 49 on the square, which is disappointing, but
12th out of 49 on the outfield, which is a fairer reflection of the
outstanding work put in by our groundsmen.
• TVL AGM report: the revised league rules have also been published in the
2003 handbooks.
• Sir Ali memorabilia for the club web page: there has been no progress on
this.
• Open day: this was a qualified success only, as the event was not properly
publicised in the Buckinghamshire Advertiser.
• Spring Ball: the event itself was a great success, but cricket
participation was slightly disappointing and the cricket awards for the 2002
season were not presented on the evening itself.
• Scoreboard: this has been successfully relocated to the corner of the
ground, at ten o’clock from the clubhouse.
Cricket Report
• Overseas players: Adnan Khan has still not been able to get his visa from
the British Embassy in Pakistan. There has been no further progress on an
overseas player for the 1st XI.
• Teas: Sharon Douglas is doing the teas on Saturdays, Dan Webb’s girlfriend
is doing them for the Sunday 2nd XI matches, and the Sunday 1st XI will
implement a rota.
• President’s Day: Matthew Stevenson said that he had had some preliminary
discussions with Sam Machin about this year’s event.
• Availability: this has been patchy, but better than this time last year;
the Saturday 2nd XI and Sunday 1st XI have had the most difficulties.
• Match reports: we have had a steady start to the season, with a win and
two defeats for the 1st XI and a win, a draw and a defeat for the 2nd XI.
• Newsletters: Matthew Stevenson and Neil Turner are working on an improved
newsletter for the 2003 season.
Treasurer’s Report
• Current balance: in his absence, Murray Scott let it be known that the
current balance is circa £300, taking into consideration the payment of the
TVL balls and handbooks bill, and the match fees for the first two weeks of
the season.
• CPSA Spring Ball: Mike Burge said that he still had some outstanding
monies to collect.
• ECB raffle: Matthew Stevenson said that he would organise this event again
this summer. Martin L. White has very kindly donated a bat, signed by
Warwickshire C.C.C., as an additional prize.
Social Report
• Beer festival: Mike Burge said that the next social event in the calendar
is a beer festival on Saturday, 24th May.
Ground Report
• Covers: the CPSA board has not approved the capital expenditure for the
covers, so it was agreed that we will have to make do with the slightly
damaged tarpaulin cover for another season.
• Square and outfield: the square has been slow and damp so far, but this is
hardly surprising given the recent weather and ongoing lack of covers. The
outfield is in immaculate condition.
Any Other Business
• New vice presidents: the committee will nominate Mark Pearce, John Tamplin
and Ken Hewston to the CPSA board as new vice presidents.
• CPSA board proposals: Matthew Stevenson communicated two proposals to the
cricket committee, the first to increase annual subscriptions to pay for a
full time bar steward, and the second to change the make up of the board
itself.
• Next meeting: this will take place on Wednesday, 4th June, 8.00pm, in the
clubhouse.
