Present: David Banner (chairman), Matthew Stevenson, David Peters, Simon
Gooch,
Zamir Khan, Rahul Punj, Saqib Ahmed, Mike Burge, Martin L. White (by
invitation)
Apologies: Murray Scott, Phil Noot
Matters Arising From Previous Minutes
- Subscription debtors: the most notable debtor from the 2002 season, Shahid Din, has now paid in full. There are various other players who played
a small number of matches in either 2002, or 2001, or both, and who have not
paid an annual subscription. It was agreed that these debts should be
written off. However, the treasurer and captains will take a hard line with
any of these players if they want to play again next season, perhaps asking
for a small additional sum as well as the 2003 subscription.
- Sir Ali funds: the outstanding £100, from the merger with Sir Ali, has
still not been transferred into the club account. David Banner said that he
was arranging a private business deal with some of the former Sir Ali
players, which would be used to recover the missing funds.
- Sunday leagues: Matthew Stevenson said that he had applied, on the club's
behalf, to join the Chiltern Sunday League next season, and was awaiting a
response.
Cricket Report
- Results: the 1st XI finished third out of ten in Division 2B of the TVL,
which was a significant improvement on the previous season, won most of its
friendly matches, and also reached the final of the Skinner Cup plate
competition, losing narrowly to Dinton. The Saturday 2nd XI finished second
in Division 5A of the TVL and has been promoted to Division 4B for next
season. In contrast to all this success, the Sunday 2nd XI struggled for
most of the season, but did manage to record two victories in the final part
of the season.
- Overseas players: there was some unpleasantness at the end of the season
with an unsavoury dispute over Nouman Habib's travelling expenses. The
matter has now been resolved privately.
- Annual awards: Matthew Stevenson will produce a list of nominations for
the next meeting.
- Scorer: Matthew Stevenson said that he had received an offer, from a
qualified scorer, to score for us next season, and added that he was
following this up.
- Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College: Matthew Stevenson said that
he had received a letter from the aforementioned about a new course, which
they are starting next year, in cricket management. The proposal is that
their students would play for the club, coach the colts, and do bar/ground
work, in return for free subscriptions and match fees. Matthew Stevenson
said that he had written back to say that we were interested in discussing
this further.
Treasurer's Report
- Match fees: All the match fees have been handed over to Murray Scott.
- Current balance: Murray Scott was unable to attend the meeting, but
reported that the current balance is £830. This latter figure includes all
creditors, including himself for the cricket balls at the beginning of the
season, with the exception of the annual Club Cricket Conference bill, which
has not yet been received.
- TVL fines: Matthew Stevenson said that he had received two more fines for
not sending in the umpire rating cards. Zamir Khan expressed surprise at
this news.
- End of year accounts: Murray Scott is currently finalising the figures.
Ground Report
Square and outfield: we have not yet received our annual marks from the
TVL. The end of season work on the square has been completed but, because
there has been no rain during the last few weeks, the birds have eaten all
the grass seed.
- Covers: Zamir Khan is still trying to negotiate a deal with Black &
Decker. If nothing materialises from this, then we will apply to the various
funding bodies for support.
- Sightscreens: we need to repair and paint the good wooden sightscreen, and
also to try to make at least one new one, probably using a steel frame,
because the old wooden one is unlikely to survive another year.
- Commercial Director, CPSA: Martin L. White, who has taken on this role,
attended the meeting to discuss the cricket section's capital expenditure
plans. He asked for a volunteer to represent cricket on a new commercial
committee; Matthew Stevenson took the action to find a candidate. It was
agreed that our priorities, in descending sequence, are covers,
sightscreens, astroturf pitches, electronic scorebox (finding a permanent
home) and hollow core tining of the square (end of the 2003 season).
- Work parties: Matthew Stevenson will organise some work parties re the
above ground improvements.
- Picket fence: David Banner said that he was very keen to put up a picket
fence around the boundary, and volunteered to fund the first part of this,
along the service road, privately. The main purpose is to a) improve the
aesthetic appearance of the ground and b) stop the public walking across the
outfield, but an additional benefit would be that it could support
advertising boards. However, this subject is really a matter for the CPSA
board and not the cricket committee, so it was not discussed any further.
Social Report
- Annual CPSA dinner dance: Mike Burge is finalising plans with the CPSA
social committee.
- Curry and fireworks evening, 2nd November: as above.
- Quiz Night, 23rd November: as above.
- Christmas Party, 14th December: as above.
Any Other Business
- Sir Ali vice presidents and life members: Zamir Khan has not made any
further progress on this on
- Sir Ali history and photographs: Matthew Stevenson asked the former Sir
Ali players to provide any appropriate items for the club web page.
- Next meeting: this will be on Wednesday, 6th November, 8.00pm, in the
clubhouse.
