Present: David Banner (chairman), Matthew Stevenson, David Peters, Simon
Gooch,
Andrew Amor, Zamir Khan, Rahul Punj, Saqib Ahmed, Mike Burge
Apologies: Murray Scott
Matters Arising From Previous Minutes
" There has been no further progress on the 2001 subscription debtors: John
Cooper, Richard Heath and Matthew Woods.
" The outstanding £100, from the merger with Sir Ali, has still not been
transferred into the club account. The problem seems to be that the former
treasurer of Sir Ali is not being forthcoming with the monies. Saqib Ahmed
has tried to resolve this matter, but without success. Zamir Khan said that
he would make a final attempt to recover the monies. It was agreed that the
monies will be written off at the next meeting, if he is not successful.
" After nearly two seasons without a tea lady, we have at last found someone
who is interested in taking on the job: Sharon Douglas, and her daughter.
David Peters has produced a shopping list, with costs, which shows that a
tea can be produced for approximately £30. With four hours labour @ £5 per
hour, which includes cleaning up afterwards, the costs should work out at
approximately £50. David Banner said that he thought this would be
acceptable to Sharon. It was agreed that the opposition should be charged
£35 for teas in all matches. The net effect of this is that the club will be
slightly down on match fees, but the overall experience of playing cricket
at Chalfont Park will be improved.
" David Banner expressed his concern that Phil Noot is still not getting
enough help with the colts on Saturday mornings. Zamir Khan said that
everyone had been too busy with other things, such as making detours to pick
up the overseas players and preparing teas. It was agreed that we need to
put more effort into the colts next season.
" The practice facility is still not operational. David Banner said that the
main problem now is getting hold of a good mat; the current one is in poor
condition and does not give a quality playing surface.
" Matthew Stevenson said that the newsletter has been well received by CPSA
members. It is also being sent to the Buckinghamshire Advertiser, which has
now started to give us some better coverage.
" There has been no further progress on organising an Annual Dinner Dance
for the end of the season. We are still not sure whether there is going to
be a CPSA marquee event in September?
Treasurer's Report
" There are a small number of annual subscription debtors, less than six.
Matthew Stevenson said that he would continue to chase them, and expected
them all to pay in the near future.
" Murray Scott was unable to attend the meeting, but reported that the
current balance is £1995.
" Matthew Stevenson said that he had received £300 of Cricket Foundation
draw tickets, and had so far sold £60. This year, all proceeds are retained
by the participating clubs, and the deadline is 6th August.
Ground Report
" The outfield is still in excellent condition. The recent inclement weather
has not helped the square, though, and it will remain difficult to get hard,
bouncy pitches until we get some covers.
" David Banner said that he had purchased a slip cradle and a bowling
machine, and will bear the cost of this, £1200, until the club is in a
position to pay him back.
Cricket Report
" Matthew Stevenson said that the Saturday 1st XI was doing very well and
was currently placed second in Division 2B of the TVL; the 2nd XI is not
doing so well, and is currently placed third from bottom in Division 5A of
the TVL. It is a similar story on Sundays, with the 1st XI doing very well,
and the 2nd XI somewhat less so. " Matthew Stevenson
said that the gap in playing ability between the 1st and 2nd XIs remained a
concern. He reiterated his view that the club should consider strengthening
the 2nd XI at the expense of the 1st XI, in order to try to bridge the gap
in playing standards. Zamir Khan was generally amenable to this idea, and it
was agreed to discuss it further over the next few weeks. The problem is
complicated on Sundays because, although the 1st XI would be prepared to
release players to the 2nd XI, principally to strengthen their batting,
Andrew Amor said that he could not think of any 2nd XI players who would be
prepared to move in the opposite direction.
" Matthew Stevenson also reiterated his concern that selection meetings do
not seem to be taking place on a regular basis. "
Matthew Stevenson said that team selection for the match against the Club
Cricket Conference President's XI would be based primarily on contribution
to the club (both cricket committee and the CPSA board) over the last year
or so. However, playing strength would be considered, too, as the opposition
are likely to be strong. David Banner said that Martin Braisher will umpire,
but we do not currently have a scorer. " With regard to
the social aspect of the day, Matthew Stevenson said that the life members
and vice presidents have already been invited to attend, but he will follow
this up with another letter. Matthew Stevenson said that he was making
arrangements for the teas. Caroline Chipperfield has offered to help out
during the day, and also to try to get some more support from other CPSA
members; this is greatly appreciated. Rahul Punj will organise an Indian
barbecue for the evening, tickets £6 each, and this event will be advertised
to all CPSA members; we will prepare food for approximately sixty people.
Matthew Stevenson said that this would be a shirt and tie occasion, with all
the club's players expected to dress accordingly.
Any Other Business
" It was agreed that, in the future, cricket committee meetings would take
place on the last Wednesday of each calendar month. The next meeting,
therefore, will be on Wednesday, 31st July, 8.00pm in the clubhouse.
