Matters Arising From Previous Minutes

·         There has been no further progress on the 2001 subscription debtors: John Cooper, Richard Heath and Matthew Woods.

·         Mudo Ahmed and Rahul Punj still owe £20 each for club shirts.

·         The outstanding £100, from the merger with Sir Ali, has still not been transferred into the club account.

·         Matthew Stevenson said that he had received a positive feedback from the hockey section after the cricketers had run the bar at their Annual Dinner Dance.

·         Matthew Stevenson said that the opening event on Saturday, 20th April had been a great success.

·         Matthew Stevenson said that he had so far been unable to find a volunteer to be the cricket representative on the CPSA social committee.

·         Matthew Stevenson said that he had drawn up a rota for the colts, teas and bar duties.  This will be circulated by email and displayed on the club noticeboard; hopefully, members will volunteer accordingly, but the captains will probably need to encourage them to do so.

·         Simon Gooch said that he had attended the Special General Meeting of the TVL last week; none of the resolutions, on the payment of players, were passed.

Treasurer’s Report

·         Murray Scott reported that the current balance was approximately £500; the opening event made a small profit, and the match fees from the first weekend have been received.

·         The above balance does not include the TVL invoice for cricket balls and handbooks, which Murray Scott has paid on the club’s behalf.

·         The £16 owed to Asif Ahmed for cricket balls has not yet been paid.

·         Matthew Stevenson said that he would promote the Cricket Foundation draw; this year, all the profits go to the club.

Ground Report

·         The electronic scoreboard has been erected.  It is currently sited on top of the storage container; the intention is that this will be a temporary location for this season only.

·         Matthew Stevenson said that he was currently drawing up a contract for the groundsman.  David Banner and Gary Hales will continue to do the work, but they have set up a private company, Chalfont Turf, so that a formal contract can be agreed with CPSA.

·         There has been no further progress on grass seeding the soil mounds surrounding the car park.

·         One of the old Guinness sightscreens has been burnt; the other has been moved alongside the storage containers.  It, or some of its parts, may come in useful if one of the other sightscreens needs repair in the future.

Cricket Report

·         The opening day was a great success, but availability for the first two weekends of the season has been poor.

·         On the first weekend of the season, the Saturday 1st XI had a good win against Aston Rowant, but the 2nd XI lost badly to the same opponents.

·         Matthew Stevenson said that he was worried about the club’s long term aim of trying to bridge the gap in playing ability between the 1st and 2nd XIs; at the moment, the gap seems to be widening.  This situation has been exacerbated by the poor availability, which inevitably hurts the 2nd XI more than the 1st XI.

·         The selection meetings do not seem to have functioned very well during the first week two weeks of the season.

·         Simon Gooch has distributed the recruitment poster for display on local notice boards, such as the library, community centre and leisure centre.

·         A practice wicket has been cut to the right of the clubhouse.

·         Phil Noot said that the colts practices had been going well.  Some of the teams practice on Thursday evenings, others on Sunday mornings.  The first fixtures are next week.

·         There seem to be some teething problems with the new key sets for the captains, but David Banner is on the case.  David Banner has also asked Peter Glen to put locks on the dressing room doors.

·         The overseas players, Nouman Habib and his cousin, Adnan Khan, have not yet arrived.

Any Other Business

·         Matthew Stevenson said that he had ordered an extra copy of the CCC handbook this season, and had placed it behind the bar for the benefit of anyone who may need to use it.

·         Simon Gooch mentioned the forthcoming CPSA social events.  Some of these are scheduled for Saturday evenings and may impact cricket matches, which are in progress at the time.  It was agreed that, given the club’s overall financial position, all fund raising events need to take precedence over cricketing niceties.

·         Tuesday, 4th June, was pencilled in as the provisional date for the next meeting.
