Apologies: Simon Gooch, Satish Sharma, Rahul Punj

Matters Arising From Previous Minutes

There has been no further progress on the 2001 subscription debtors: John Cooper, Richard Heath and Matthew Woods.  Mudo Ahmed, Rahul Punj and Asif Ahmed still owe £20 each for club shirts.  There is still one outstanding match fee, from the Sunday 1st XI match against Chipperfield; Saqib Ahmed said that he would forward a cheque for £21 to Murray Scott.  The outstanding £100 from the merger with Sir Ali has still not been paid into the club bank account.  Phil Noot said that he had arranged coaching courses for two colts managers; he asked Murray Scott to forward cheques for £55 per course.

Matthew Stevenson said that he had organised some pre season indoor net sessions at Chalfont Leisure Centre, on three Sunday afternoons, 17th and 24th March, and 7th April, from 2.45pm to 4.15pm.  The Sunday 1st XI scorebook has still not been retrieved.  There has been no further progress on the ground work party or the advertising boards idea.  Matthew Stevenson said that the plans for the rugby social events were in place.

Treasurer’s Report

David Banner gave an overview of the CPSA finances.  The overall picture is worrying, because new bills have come to light and we are heavily in debt.  However, we are making a healthy operating profit at the moment, and an ambitious business plan is being put in place for the next three to five years.

Murray Scott said that, after paying the colts coaching course bills, we would have less than £40 in the club bank account.  Matthew Stevenson said that we would need to pay for the TVL cricket balls in April.  Zamir Khan said that he could get cheap, but nonetheless good quality, cricket balls from Pakistan.  It was agreed that he should spend up to £50, and he expected to be able to buy at least 25 balls with this amount.

Ground Report

There has been no further progress re finding a groundsman for the 2002 season, because of the difficult financial position which CPSA is in at the moment (see above).  It was agreed that we will use last season’s temporary scoreboard again this season.  David Banner said that the next work party will burn the two old Guinness sightscreens.

Fixtures Report

Matthew Stevenson said that the fixtures for the 2002 season were now almost complete, with only a couple of blank dates remaining, both for the Sunday 2nd XI.  Matthew Stevenson said that the Club Cricket Conference had not yet confirmed a date for next season’s fixture to mark the opening of the new clubhouse, but we are still hoping for Tuesday, 4th June, the last day of the Queen’s Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.  Related to this, David Banner is involved in the village’s celebration plans for the Queen’s Jubilee, which could be a financial and promotional opportunity for the club.  David Banner offered to produce the fixture booklets to save the club unnecessary expense.

Cricket Report

Murray Scott said that he had been giving some thought to the opening day event on 20th April.  He proposed a six-a-side tournament during the afternoon, followed by a finger buffet, the presentation of last season’s annual awards and then a disco open to all CPSA members.  There was a subsequent discussion on a pre season recruitment campaign, based around the opening event.  It was agreed that we should put up some posters in strategic places throughout the village, such as notice boards, local newsagents’ windows, local pubs, the community centre and the leisure centre; Matthew Stevenson took this action.  David Banner will speak to the Buckinghamshire Advertiser re some pre season publicity.

There was another discussion on cricket teas, but there were no new ideas of any substance.  Phil Noot said that he had entered colts teams, in the county knockout competitions, at under 11, under 12 and under 13 level.

Any Other Business

Matthew Stevenson said that he was continuing to develop the club’s web page.  He also reminded everyone that the Annual General Meeting will take place next week, on Friday, 1st February, at 8.00pm at the clubhouse.  Zamir Khan mentioned the possibility or organising an overseas club tour to raise funds; the idea is that you produce a tour brochure and sell advertising slots to interested parties.
