CLUB NEWSLETTER
Issue 4 - Wednesday 9th October
www.chalfontsports.org.uk |
|
This weeks issue has reports from the Mens 2nds and
the U14s who both started their league campaigns with wins at the
weekend. If anyone would like to write a report for your team's game
then I am sure your captain will be happy for you to do so. I'm
particularly looking for reports from teams that have yet to feature in
the newsletter.
Again, if you have any other articles for future
issues to go along with the regular results and fixtures round-ups
please do not hesitate to contact me.

monday nightTRAINING
|
|
Not been to training yet? Simon Gooch reports on
what you missed out on on Monday night.
There was another excellent turnout for Monday
night training, with the Peters' duo putting us through our paces.
After starting with some challenging stick skill exercises, we
completed the evening with some very competitive 5-a-side games,
with some players being more competitive than others. Mens & Ladies
4's practised their shorts this week and next week it will be the
turn of the 5's - get your players along to training, so they too
can have slick 'shorts'. |

playerPROFILE
|
|
Each week this section will profile a player that
you don't necessarily know. The content of the profile is left up to
the author (captain or teammate), so it could take many forms. This
week sees the focus on the players performance in her game on
Saturday, but next week it could easily see more of a light-hearted
pen portrait a la Scoop.
Ladies 4ths - Left Midfield - Emma Jones
As the ladies 4ths played their best game of the season, new girl
Emma has grown in confidence and contribution. Emma was strong in
defence, working well (with Sue as her back) to contain Staines as
they repeatedly attacked down the right. Her main influence,
however, was linking with Natalie to set up repeated A & C attacks
down our left wing. Emma fed balls through, backed up and even sped
off down the wing herself on occasion. Well done Emma, hope the
sudden onset illness (!?) is better soon. |

DEVELOPMENT TEAM |
|
Amersham and Chalfont U14s started their league
season with a win over Aylesbury. As captain, Will Garrett led his
team well with an inspirational performance putting Aylesbury under
pressure from the start, with several attacking moves in the opening
minutes, one leading to a free hit just outside the D which A&C took
quickly resulting in Nathan Ringham slotting one in on the far post
after a mistake by the keeper.
Aylesbury got it together and defended well
against a very mobile A&C side with both the midfield and forwards
playing some great hockey, but it wasn't all one way traffic with
Aylesbury turning the tables and forcing Tom Collins to pull off
some great saves. The A&C defence pulled together and by half time
were back in control but still only leading by the one goal. A&C
started the second half as the first with some good moves and lots
of pressure. Eventually they were rewarded with quick break down the
right being finished off with another super shot by Ringham giving
the Aylesbury keeper no chance. The remainder of the match produced
much of the same but the score stayed at 2-0.
Team: Tom Collins, Tom Gee, Vicky Phillips, Will
Garrett, Tim Gossage, Ben Smith, Andy Carruthers, David Nicklin,
Kirsten Marsh, Nathan Ringham, Michael Smith, Erin Ruxton

Goalkeeper
An appeal from the Ladies 4th team, who desperately need a
goalkeeper to play in their league match away against Reading at 3pm
this Saturday, 12th October.
Please contact Sue Butler on 07798 733201 if you
are able to help. Please note that (obviously) you must be female
and it cannot be anyone who is already playing a league game on
Saturday! Thank you.
Umpires
Bob, captain of the 5ths and 6ths, is looking for umpires for his
games on Saturday. He will also be interested in hearing from people
that are able to umpire for him throughout the season. You can
contact Bob on 0780 1411928 or bob.hance@bt.com
There is also the strong possibility that the
club will be running an umpiring course in the very near future for
anyone that is interested learning more. More details will follow as
soon as they are known. |

MENS 2NDreport
|
|
The men's second XI opened their league campaign
with a convincing win against Hayes. All members of the team
performed well with a splendid hat trick from Duncan Ward. After
early pressure, with chances falling to both sides including one to
Hayes which they should have converted, A & C broke the deadlock
after 25 minutes when a well struck short corner by Duncan Ward
eased the tension. Coming out into the second half with all guns
blazing, A & C went 2 up when Andy Watts drove into the D and hit a
foot and the second short corner was again converted by Duncan Ward.
Hayes then gained momentum for a 5 minute spell
pressing hard but still unable to find a response. A & C recovered
their composure to put together some excellent moves, one of which
resulted in a superb team goal - Mark Worrell finding Neil Turner on
the 25 yard line drove past a couple of players, passing to Andy
Watts on the by line who then drove along the line past another
defender to slip it to Duncan Ward who was charging in to clinch his
hat trick. Hayes pulled a goal back late on but A & C comfortably
held on, even after Tony Hewston was sent off and were reduced to
10. |
