Found by pitchside Saturday morning and passed to me: Lady's bracelet with a ring. West Witney did not claim it so it is either our Ladies 1,2 or 3's or it was there overnight.

reportMENS 1ST

Mill Hill 0-1 Mens 1st

Continuing their form Amersham and Chalfont travelled to Mill Hill on Saturday, returning with all three points, but only after some final minute dramatics. The match started with Mill Hill on the attack. As A&C struggled to get into a frantic match the home side found themselves camped around the A&C 'D', but incredible defence kept the attacks at bay. Despite several short corners, prolonged pressure and several clear chances, Mill Hill were unable to open the scoring thanks mainly to the efforts of Darryl Chiles at Centre Back working around the great effort of the other defenders.

The second half continued in the same vein but defending as a team A&C soaked up the pressure with David Crossman working tirelessly to combat the Mill Hill strength on the right. With ten minutes to go A&C began to take advantage of gaps in the mid-field and slowly began to build a few promising attacks. It was not however until the last minute that a strong build up found Crossman in the D with two defenders to beat. This he did with fleet of foot and a spinning shot to the bottom corner. The goal-bound ball beat the keeper nicking an A&C stick as it flew into the far corner.

The game ended 1-0 to A&C and a shocked Mill Hill knew that they had lost the game due to a superb A&C team performance in defence. The big matches will be this weekend when local rivals Gerrards Cross host the 1st XI at Beaconsfield School and A&C 2nd XI return the favour at Newlands Park.

Team: Pearce, Wardman, Payne, van Dyvenbode, Chiles, Westaway, van Eestren, Crossman, Heath, Stevens, Scott, Cartledge, Budd, McCallion

LADIES 1STreport

Ladies 1st 2-1 Camberley (EHA Cup)

A golden goal by A&C Hockey Club's Chairman, Alison Spicer, minutes into the second period of extra time has given Amersham & Chalfont the chance of playing a Premier Division National League side in the next round of the Hockey England Ltd. Women's Cup. In very blustery conditions on Sunday at Newland Park, the level of hockey was remarkably high as A&C knocked out their higher league opponents. A&C started strongly but Camberley took the lead with their first attack after just six minutes when a first-time shot beat Vicki Williams. The hosts were level within four minutes following a penalty corner. Rachel Parker's fierce strike was deflected and fell to Cal Tomlinson who finished comprehensively. A&C had the better of the first-half with Katie Boughen and Heidi James offering good attacking options down the right. The defence, in which Sarah Watts proved an immovable rock, had to stay alert as Camberley still threatened going forward.

The second half started off with Camberley having some sustained spells of possession but again the A&C defence held firm and cleared their lines well. As the half drew on, Katy Shaw took control of the midfield and was often able to release Caroline Coates for dangerous raids down the left flank. With just a couple of minutes left Williams produced an excellent save, when Camberley looked set to score, and ensured the game moved into extra-time.

During the first period of extra-time, Annie Brothwell came agonisingly close to scoring the winner as she just failed to reach Shaw's pass across the face of the goal. However, two minutes into the second period, Spicer deflected in Tomlinson's strike from a penalty corner for a dramatic winner. A&C face Trojans (National League Premier) at home on 17th November in the next round of the Cup.

Team: Williams; Watts, Spicer; Boughen, Parker, Bullock; Cartledge, Shaw, Coates; Brothwell, Tomlinson; Subs: James, Watson, Tomkinson, Hagan.

MIXEDreport

Thames Valley P-P Mixed

With Cup commitments removing several women from the usual line-up, Amersham and Chalfont Mixed XI met at the club on Sunday with just 7 players.

A good team performance saw Captain Chris Paine using a new mobile phone to make a call straight to the Thames Valley defence to try to cancel the match. A heated response saw an abandoned game, but tempers fraying. Umpire, Alastair Wertheim stepped in to take control and grabbed the phone for the return call. A quick exchange and some organized banter saw the game back on and the team all smiles.

Loading the car proved easy, due to some strong marshalling from womens Captain Fay, who carefully selected positions for each player in just two cars.

This is where the game took an odd twist as the mobile, now a key player in this weeks match, rang again, and keeper Paine, despite some quick reactions was unable to stop the match being cancelled completely by the Thames Valley Captain. However, all was not lost as the team joined forces to trek to Tesco for a much required fry up!
