4TH |

The mens' fourth team followed their easy victory
the previous week with a much harder fought struggle. The scoreline
of 5-4 reflected a game where both sides attacked well but defended
a little shakily. Amersham and Chalfont had the better of the
opening exchanges and deservedly took the lead through Kern Corzano
from close range, but the first Henley short-corner brought them
level. A solo run from James Lander led to the Henley defence
opening up for a second A and C goal, only for the second Henley
short-corner to be a repeat of the first. As half time approached, A
and C kept losing possession and went behind to a smartly taken
reverse stick shot.
The second half was full of end to end play, with
the Henley goalkeeper pulling off some good saves, but unable to
stop a fiercely struck equaliser from right -half Adam Ramsden.
However, when careless defence allowed Henley to take the lead, A
and C's cause looked somewhat lost, until Kern Corzano produced a
well-taken snapshot which beat the goalkeeper's despairing dive. In
the last two minutes, an exchange of passes allowed Tony Eaude to
slide the ball under the advancing goalkeeper for the goal which
sealed the win which A and C just about deserved on the balance of
play. |

LADIES 3RDreport
|
|
Well, what can I say an interesting game to say
the least on Saturday, with both sides playing rather shabby and
scrappy hockey throughout the match. Something the team wasn't able
to put their finger on, therefore continuing into the second half in
the same manner. Where was Dave to shout at us when we needed him!!
Anyway, the first half got going and we were
defending and attacking well, not much really to report, but towards
the end of the first half, Nicky Smith gained possession of the ball
and whacked a superb hit into the D where Katy Jennison swept it
straight into the goal.
One goal up, we came back to the second half with
fighting spirit, again a scrappy start, but we managed to gain
possession for a good deal of the second half. A few near misses and
short corners, but still no goals! As the team grew tired towards
the end of the match, the opposition gained control, and the ball
flew to the other end of the pitch, leaving the defence short. Thus
an equaliser in the second half.
All in all a good match to get underway before
the league games start. |

LADIES 1STreport
|
|
Ladies 1's won 2-0 at home to Reading 2a's with 2
penalty corner strikes by Cal Tomlinson ... one at the end of each
half. The ladies did not play at their most fluent and their
'diamond' often looked more like a 'rhombus' or 'parallelogram'! The
ladies did threaten and Cal was denied twice by the keeper in the
first-half. Just after the break Reading had a good deal of
possession and AC's defence suffered a couple of nervy moments.
However, credit should be given to the team for "gritting it out"
and achieving the three points from their first league game where in
the same fixture last year we had allowed Reading to twice come back
to get the draw. |
