Team: Marsden; Galpin; Brothwell, Parker, Ferguson; Fermor, Ruxton, Coates; Shaw, Cartledge, Watson; Sub. Cowley.

A&C returned to league action with a fairly comfortable, if not totally convincing, victory away to bottom placed Wokingham on Saturday.

A&C attacked from the start and Katy Shaw twice went close to scoring in the early stages. Erin Ruxton and Sarah Cartledge also had shots saved by the home keeper who was active throughout the afternoon and helped keep Wokingham's hopes alive for a large part of the game.

A&C finally took the lead after 15 minutes when Rachel Parker deftly deflected in Annie Brothwell's shot at a penalty corner. Brothwell set up another goal scoring opportunity when her cross shot evaded the on-rushing forwards.

A&C struggled to play flowing hockey on a slightly bumpy pitch but their performance improved in the second-half with better movement ahead of the ball and their ball speed across the pitch.

Sarah Cowley and Brothwell both had shots saved before Ruth Fermor finally scored A&C's second after 56 minutes with a neat lift over a grounded keeper. Shaw and Ruxton both could have scored a third but it was left to Caroline Coates to convert a last minute penalty stroke to complete the scoring.

KIDNAPPED

By Robert Louis Stevenson
Abridged Caroline Chipperfield

I will begin the story of my adventures with a certain morning late in the month of November, the year of grace 2005, when I ....... drove down to the club to find only a few ladies 5's players. Captain on the day - Mrs Zoë Scott was concerned that we may only be taking 10 players for a league game to the darkest reaches of Oxford Hawks... then on the horizon a hero in the form of Laura Noble stepped out of her car (having just played for the ladies 4's and hoping for a hot tea and a good chin-wag). Bundling her into Marion's car along with her kit and a hot Irish stew for the journey we headed on to Oxford. To cut a very long story short, we won! A fantastic team effort winning 1-0 being only the second victory this season. Thanks also to the ladies 3's (and Adam!) who were great when we told them we had stolen their goalie (it was a friendly and Rowie stepped in - MANY THANKS!)

A&C 5ths continued their good (but unrewarded) play of the past few weeks with a 5:0 win against 10 man Staines. After last weeks cancelled game vs. Leighton Buzzard, the team were eager to get stuck in. We started well and immediately put Staines under pressure. Good work from Chris, Avtar, Ian and Thomas saw us win some short corners. We converted the second one with the shot from Colin going over the keeper via a deflection. A goal from Thomas from the next short was ruled out because he smacked it past the keepers head from the short and then claimed not to know that the rules had changed since the last time he played. Bearing in mind that he put up his hand and palmed one down in defence last week, we believe him! Avtar also had a goal disallowed before he scored our second. Advice from Dave Peters resulted in the short being played right to Avtar who slammed it past the keeper. Halftime score of 2:0.

The second half continued as the first with A&C on the attack and winning more shorts. Another of these shorts saw Bhavik get to the ball at the post prior to the defender and knock it home for his first of the season. His second soon followed with more good build up play through Cash and Mark down the left. A few more chances came and went and the score could have been much higher if not for some fine keeping from the Staines goalie. Cash scored the fifth after a mazy run and shot from the top right. A fine defensive performance from Bob, Dave and Tom saw a complete shutout where Mark in goal had little to do for the whole game.

Team: Trewavas, Byrne, Brockett, Peters, Hance, Thakrar, Blamey, Boettcher, Dandeker, Hockney, Searle and Singh.
