PHOTOS REQUIRED

The photos section on the website is becoming a little out of date with photos from games and socials. If you have a camera why not take it along to a game and take a few shots to go on the website? Email any photos to Watsy (andy@watsy.com) or myself (neil@neilturnersoftware.com).

The work party on Saturday was very productive - we broke up the concrete of the old strip, and this will be used as hardcore when the new concrete is laid. We were also able to help Banner and Shabs with the end of season work on the square. This weekend's work party alternates to the Sunday - 23rd October, 10am start. Please make every effort to come along and support!

The Annual Dinner will be on Friday, 25th November, 7.30pm at the club. More details will follow soon but you can reserve your ticket(s) by contacting the organiser, Andy Parsons, andy.parsons@autologic-systems.co.uk, or your team captain.

ACHC travelled to Feltham to take on top of the table British Airways with some trepidation as they were missing four players. With Neil Turner and Charlie Wooler both injured, Jamie Lamborn and captain Jim Keenan unavailable there was considerable re-organisation in the midfield. ACHC made their customary poor start exacerbated by understandable confusion in their marking. BA showed great skill and surprising pace as they carved out two clear openings. Each time they were denied by keeper Andy Forshaw making great saves from point blank shots. ACHC regained their shape and composure and a pass from James Heath gave Alan Carruthers time and space to pick out Oscar Postma lurking in the D. His first time reverse stick hit caught the BA keeper unawares. ACHC grew in confidence and played some fast passing hockey that had BA chasing shadows. They should have been rewarded with a second mid way through the half when Hewston forced the ball home, however the BA umpire saw an infringement and awarded a defensive free hit. ACHC's endeavours were rewarded when Carruthers flicked home from close range shortly before the interval.

Half Time; 0-2

The second half was only a few minutes old when an enthusiastic tackle from Postma was rewarded with a stick across his chest courtesy of the BA centre half. Eagle eyed Guy Ross spotted this and obliged by showing the BA player a yellow card. Being reduced to ten men fired up the BA team as each player showed great stick work trying to dribble past the whole of the ACHC team. Their lack of teamwork played into the hands of ACHC who countered swiftly making great use of their man advantage scoring two quick goals through Nick Wilson and Andy Watts. It was at this point that a good game soured slightly as the BA umpire appeared to want to get more involved. Alan Carruthers was given a yellow card for tackling too low and being hit on the head, then Plod was penalised for two perfect tackles (I would say so, I'm writing the report). BA converted both penalties with great style giving Forshaw no chance. Carruthers returned to score the goal of the game latching onto Watsy's pinpoint cross and firing into the corner. BA did not give up and following another great save from Forshaw they were first to the rebound and flicked the ball home.

This was a great win for ACHC and with other results going in their favour they go joint top of the table with High Wycombe 2nds and Staines 3rds. Next week will be another thriller as they are at home to Staines. Push back 10am Newlands Park

Team; A Forshaw, M Rutherford, C Ottaway, C Yoxall, T Gossage, J Heath, P Westaway, A Watts, A Carruthers, O Postma, T Hewston, N Wilson.

Man of the Match; Alan Carruthers

Well the Ladies 5's arrived for the game against Sonning on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon, with the great combination of youth and experience. Unfortunately on taking to the pitch we conceded 3 goals in the space of the first 8 or so minutes (it felt that quick but it may have been slightly longer!) Anyway, our heads did not go down, we fought hard in the heat with Lucy Etchegoyen scoring a great goal and were all relieved when the half time whistle went. After a stirring team talk by on-pitch captain Sue Green (and oranges!) we returned to the pitch to attempt to even the score. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, but Cat Hall-Jones scored another great goal and with Sue Champion at the other end making some amazing saves we finished up 4 - 2 to Sonning. A great team effort and the hard work at both ends reflected by Cat and Sue C. ending as joint man of the match with 5 votes each. A special thanks to Alex Camp (Mum of Becky) for running our subs as Jenny was umpiring.

Team: Fyffe; Watson; Brothwell, Parker, Ferguson; Fermor, Ruxton, Coates; Cowley, Cartledge, Durkin; Sub. Daughtrey.

A&C enjoyed success in a keenly contested local derby away to South Bucks in the Trysports Three Counties League on Saturday.

South Bucks looked the more threatening at the start but it was A&C that took the lead with their first meaningful attack of the game after 8 minutes. Erin Ruxton produced some neat skills to work her way into the host's D before slipping the ball to Sarah Cartledge who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.

On a slow sandy surface, periods of the game were fought out in the middle of the pitch. South Bucks won themselves a series of penalty corners and fired home an equaliser from one of these after 26 minutes.

If South Bucks had the better of the first half, then A&C definitely created the better chances and more possession after the break. A&C increased the tempo of the game, improving their ball speed and range of passes which helped them carve out some good openings.

Cartledge provided a great outlet up front with her running off the ball and was well supported by Natalie Durkin and Caroline Coates. The midfield worked hard and the long passing of Helen Ferguson and Annie Brothwell from the back helped spread the game all over the pitch.

Brothwell twice went close from penalty corners before A&C took a deserved lead with 12 minutes remaining. Good work by Cartledge helped set up Durkin whose goal bound sweep was stopped by a defender's foot. Coates stepped up to score from the penalty spot.

A&C could have scored again but for some good saves by the South Bucks keeper who firstly stopped a Ruxton effort after a weaving run and then a shot from Coates following a free hit. In the end, A&C were worth their win.
