SOUTH HOCKEY
Congratulations to Helen Ferguson, Helen Marsden and Erin Ruxton who represented the South of England Under 15s in a Divisional Tournament at Millfield School last weekend helping the South to win 3 out of their 4 matches and finishing runners-up to the Midlands.

Further congratulations to these three as they have all been selected for the trials for England Under 16s starting later this month.

MISSING SHIRT NO. 31
On Saturday, Jo Peters lent her blue shirt to a new player in the Ladies 5th team. After the 4.30 game at Newlands, the shirt was left on the side of the pitch. Did anyone pick this shirt up? If so, could you please email Jo at jo.peters99@tiscali.co.uk. Thanks.

MAN OF THE MATCH
Special mention to Catherine Hall-Jones who was awarded the Man Of The Match award for the Ladies 5's game on Saturday.

Team: Fyffe; Watson; Reape, Parker, Ferguson; Cartledge, Fermor, Brothwell, Durkin; Coates, Patterson; Sub. Shaw, Wood.

A&C lost their first league game for over 18 months in the cruellest possible way when Milton Keynes scored with the last hit of the game in their Trysports Three Counties League match at Newland Park on Saturday.

In a game that was always likely to be close between two of the top three placed teams in the division, neither side gave anything away in the early stages of the match. Laura Patterson made a couple of darting runs but unfortunately no one could get on the end of her crosses.

At the other end, Tanya Fyffe produced a smart save and Rachel Parker superbly deflected a rising shot off the goal-line to safety. On the stroke of half-time, Fyffe injured herself in the process of making another save and was replaced in goal by Sarah Wood.

Last season, A&C put 12 goals past the Milton Keynes defence in their two meetings but this time found their opposition better organised and far more resilient. However, A&C did create several chances in the second half for which they will rue not having taken one.

Annie Brothwell's shot from a penalty corner was saved and Caroline Coates shot was cleared off the line. Patterson had her reverse stick shot blocked and Brothwell again went close from a couple of shots at penalty corners - the second one beating the keeper but not the defender on the line. Coates was put through following good work by Patterson but saw her crisp strike comfortably saved.

With just 12 minutes remaining, Wood finally had her first touch of the ball as she kicked clear a dangerous attack from the visitors. As the game neared the end and A&C started to tire, Wood was called upon again to make several sharp saves. This was just the lead up to a quite remarkable ending to the game that saw Milton Keynes earn eight consecutive penalty corners.

The last four of these corners were after the final whistle had been blown and so were played out with all the Milton Keynes outfield players attacking the A&C circle each time. Finally the pressure told.

A&C will look to bounce back next week when they are away to top of the table Sonning.

EHA VASE

Travelling 60 miles in the rain kind of set the tone for the day.
Despite all the possession it wasn't going our way.
The home team scored once against the run of play.
Then scored again as we failed to keep them at bay.
A resurgence saw the stop of the decay,
but a few mistakes and they'd made us pay.
A good effort from the XI that travelled - just didn't quite happen!
