A&C made it 10 wins out of 10 as they completed their pre-Christmas league campaign with a very impressive display against Wallingford at Newland Park on Saturday. The game started very even and Natalie Durkin forced the first save before Erin Ruxton opened the scoring after 13 minutes with a clean strike. Within a minute, Caroline Coates doubled the lead with a neat reverse stick strike.

After this, A&C played some excellent hockey, attacking at pace with some slick passing and scored three more before half-time in the space of a 5 minute spell. Coates made it 3-0 after 22 minutes after being set-up by Rachel Parker from a well-worked penalty corner. Laura Patterson then converted Alex Teasdale's pass before Teasdale scored herself after driving with the ball nearly half the length of the pitch before unleashing a fierce strike.

The second half began in much the same vein as the first half ended and Patterson added another 3 minutes into the half, again from a Teasdale precision pass this time following a penalty corner. A few minutes later, Patterson scored with a deft flick when through one-on-one with the keeper which was followed shortly afterwards by Coates completing her hat-trick with a decisive finish.

Wallingford began to defend deeper, getting more and more bodies behind the ball to make it difficult for A&C to break down but Patterson still managed to score her fourth after 56 minutes and Katy Shaw, earlier denied by the keeper, struck a fine shot in from the top of the D in the final minute.

Wallingford by no means played badly and may consider themselves slightly unlucky to have found the league leaders in such good form.

The ladies 4's went into their last league game of the year against a strong City of Oxford side knowing that they needed at least a point to keep their promotion hopes alive.

A&C had several chances to score which came mainly from the speed of debutante Catherine Hall-Jones driving down the right wing, but failed to even win a short corner for their efforts.

Laura Noble in the A&C goal played the game of her life to keep the score level as by lacking a decent routine City failed to convert any of about 12 short corner chances. Sue Butler made a suberb shoulder height goal line save late in the second half to again deny City's slippery centre foward.

As usual the team battled and encouraged throughout a hard fought game and the draw was enough to keep the team top of the league going into the Christmas break.

Team: Noble; Kitto; Butler, Champion, Kirby; N. Smith, J Smith, Keenan; Hockney, Stoddart, R. Dunning. Sub: Hall-Jones.
