MATCH REPORTS REQUIRED

Have you noticed that the majority of match reports to be featured in the newsletters this season have been from the Ladies 1st XI? Do you want the rest of the club to hear how good (or bad) your team has done occasionally? Then why not help your captain out and have a go at submitting a match report for your team to the newsletter (neil@umpires.co.uk). Any reports no matter how long or short are always very welcome.

FIRST AID COURSE

Heidi Frick and Caroline Coates are looking into the possibility of running a First Aid Course for anyone that is a member of the Club. If you would be interested in being involved please contact Heidi Frick or Warren Scott.

ITV DIGITAL FREEVIEW BOX

The Club is looking to get a Freeview box behind the bar to add more channels and a better reception, but before spending any money on this we were hoping that there might be a "spare" box in your loft, or that you might be willing to donate an old/spare or unused box to the club. Please contact Warren if you think that you might be able to help.

Did you know that Chalfont Park Sports Club has a thriving web site with loads of up to date and historical information on CPSA and all of the playing sections - hockey, softball and cricket. This year has also seen the addition of the sports club forum where any of you can pose questions to other members, find out up to date information and even vote on issues such as where the next tour will be going - a real thriving community. The web site is so popular that it regularly receives over 300 visitors a day - so pop along have a browse and get involved - or just watch!

We like to think that we are one of the leaders in using new technology to make things run smoothly and we are hoping to add to this in the future. We are planning to run a secure, web based central administration system which will make life for all captains simpler, enable individuals to update their own profiles and maybe put up individual player profiles such as goals scored, member since etc.

Any suggestions always welcome - maybe post them on the forum!

In the B league on Monday A&C secured another two wins to establish an early lead in this group with a P4, W4 record. The evening saw a number of minor 'firsts':

Helen Marsden's indoor debut - and no goals conceded.

Over two weeks for the A & B games, A&C have put out completely different Indoor sides for the first time - we now have 15 people playing regularly all to the same pattern of play.

We set a new record for failing to score corners with 0 out of 15 in the evening! With the A team having almost the same level of problems the week before this is clearly a concern.

But on with the good news. A&C dominated both games, against local rivals Gerrards Cross and South Bucks. In the first game continuous pressure eventually lead to a 1-0 win thanks to a well taken goal from Al Spicer. Some excellent runs from Laura Patterson at right back lead to a string of chances and corners but somehow GX kept the ball out of the goal. Defensively the team played very solidly and defended well up the pitch, limiting GX to only a couple of corners and half chances throughout the game.

The second game against South Bucks followed a similar pattern, but despite a string of saves from the South Bucks keeper, goals from Annie and Lynda in the second half meant A&C ran out comfortable winners. Annie's goal was especially pleasing as she got well forward from the middle position and was in place to receive the pass across the D from another break down the right by Laura.

Next week sees the A league continue with games against Wycombe High School and Slough, looking to build on the good results of a week ago.

Lastly, if there is anyone else interested in playing Indoor's this season, please contact me at john.spicer@xerox.com.

Team: Fyffe; Watson; Bullock, Parker, Brothwell; Ruxton, Shaw, Teasdale, Durkin; Coates, Patterson; Sub. Ferguson.

A&C returned to Trysports League Division 1 action at Newland Park on Saturday and were involved in a goal feast with Milton Keynes. A&C took the lead as early as the 3rd minute when a quick free-hit by Alex Teasdale found Erin Ruxton unmarked in the D, who neatly slotted the ball home. Teasdale then had a fierce shot of her own which hit the side netting.

Milton Keynes then had two penalty corners which were both superbly stopped on the line by Annie Brothwell. As A&C continued to push forwards and Milton Keynes twice counter-attacked and broke through on goal but were denied by Tanya Fyffe. However, they were not to be denied after 27 minutes when Amy Turnbull spun past two defenders in the D to equalise.

The equilibrium did not last long when, three minutes later, Ruxton scored her second after receiving a pass from Brothwell, making space for herself and calmly putting the ball past the keeper.

Three goals in the first 11 minutes of the second-half typified the way the balance of the game seemed to keep changing. Four minutes after the break, Turnbull equalized again with a clever reverse stick flick.

Rachel Parker restored A&C's lead almost immediately when she followed up a rebound at a penalty corner. Laura Patterson then gave the hosts a two goal cushion when she latched on to a missed back pass, broke away from the defence and slipped the ball past the advancing keeper.

Milton Keynes still came back again and were denied by a brilliant double save by Fyffe. Firstly at the feet of an oncoming forward and then, while lying on the ground, stretching high to deflect away a flick.

A&C finally put the game beyond doubt with two further goals. After 54 minutes, Lynda Bullock scored from another rebound at a penalty corner. Six minutes later, an excellent team move culminated in Patterson threading the ball through to Teasdale who drew the keeper and unselfishly squared the ball for Brothwell to score.

There was still time for Amy Turnbull to complete her hat-trick as her strike took a helpful deflection to beat Fyffe.

Fresh from their hammering of their old rivals West Herts last week A&C were in determined mode. Henley however found it difficult to settle with solid defending from Gill Brewer and Val Cremin in the centre and A&C were unlucky not to score. However Henley secured their first short corner against the run of play, which was struck soundly into the back of the net.

A&C lifted their heads and with some strong defending held off the Henley attacks and were soon back in front with two glorious goals from Al Spicer which were superbly assisted by Hannah Towers.

Henley came back after half time with more gusto and secured another corner resulting in the equaliser. A&C's energy began to drain with one forced errror after another. Henley capitalised upon this and converted another short corner. Julie Whitehead and Janet Carter controlled the centre of the pitch by pushing forward and slipping the ball through for the attacks whilst Kate Hext and Cathy Stewart ran the line ragged coming back to help out Fay Rider and Rosemary Brand with Henley counter attacks down the wings.

With five minutes remaining and great determination A&C decided to throw caution to the wind and commenced an all out attack. From the far left Janet Carter threaded the ball through the Henley defence to find Sara Daughtrey who neatly slotted the ball to the left of the keeper. Shortly after, with only a couple of minutes remaining, a superb 1-2 attacking combination with Hannah Towers gave Al her hat-trick and A&C their first (and well deserved) league win! Leaving A&C mid table and still unbeaten in their new division!
