LADIES 4'S INVITATION

Have I mentioned that we are top of our division? Surely not. However, on Saturday, we are playing Milton Keynes, who are second. Eek! We have the same points but are ahead on goal difference, so it is a crunch game. All supporters gratefully received, 10.30 at Newlands. We can offer an eclectic bunch of people to mingle with on the sideline: e.g. Woody's Nan (a 'nan' sort of age), Gracie Gooch (aged 14 days), our club president (extremely youthful obviously) and my dog (3). I could go on... Hello are battling OK for the team and sideline snaps, so don't miss it!!!!

FREE LUNCH ANYONE?
There will be a FREE hot lunch at the club at 2:30 before the Rugby on Sunday 13th February. All you need to do to qualify is contact Dave Banner or Chris Blamey (Cashman) by 6th February to let them know that you will be there for the lunch, and then turn up and help do some maintenance on the Clubhouse and grounds from 10am to 2pm on the 13th.

So for helping to make our club look smarter you can then relax in the club, watch the Rugby and enjoy the fruits of your labour. The more the merrier and the more that can be done.

Jobs will be given on the day, and there will be jobs to suit all capabilities. Please contact Cash/Dave and come down to help with the maintenance - it is only four hours of the day and it really does make a difference to the Club - and for helping you really will get your lunch.

A&C travelled away to Slough this weekend for a real tester against a side that has been trouncing most opposition so far this season. We all knew that a good performance today would give us a good backing for the start of the league on Saturday and some of our South African contingent were looking forward to getting back onto the water based astro.

The first half saw both teams attacking and defending well, yet neither were able to break through. A&C then made the first error of the game with a short corner being over turned which caught our defence too high and we suddenly had a break on. Jenna Kirby did brilliantly to push them out wide and when the slip came inside to the Slough attack Val Cremin calmly stood up to the attacker and took the ball off her to keep us in the game. The first half finished without score.

The second half saw A&C emerging even stronger. A string of short corners which saw some good saves by the Slough keeper eventually resulted in a penalty flick which saw Fay Rider place it neatly in the right hand corner 1-0. That was all A&C need to get the confidence flowing. Julie Whitehead and Janet Carter were combining well in the middle and Hannah Towers was having good runs down the left. The decider came when our two strikers Sara Daughtrey and Louise Stockdale broke down the right eventually crossing it to the far left post were Hannah Towers slotted in the second. The game finished with a flurry of attacks by Slough but our defence led by Vicki William's in goal, who might I add has given our defence such confidence kept them at bay.

A good game and a well deserved win.

Team: Vicki Williams, Val Cremin, Jenna Kirby, Gillian Brewer, Fay Rider (c), Alice Wainwright, Julie Whitehead, Janet Carter, Hannah Towers, Sara Daughtrey, Louise Stockdale, Rosemary Brand.
