AMERSHAM AND CHALFONT HOCKEY CLUB NEWSLETTER
ISSUE 01 - 09 OCTOBER 2003
===================================================
Here is the first fullish newsletter of the season.
Hopefully this is the last plain text issue and
we should be back to the cricket style HTML issues
from next week.
Please could all captains email me the results
of their matches by Monday evenings at the latest
so I can start putting the newsletter together
early on Tuesday. Information I need is the
score, the names of all your scorers and maybe
a match report. So that the newsletter doesn't get
too long, I am looking to feature two match reports
a week along with a player profile.
Also, as you may have seen in the cricket
newsletter, I would like to start putting inset
pictures into match reports etc. If you or any of
your team have a digital camera I would appreciate
if you could arrange to have a team photo taken in
the next couple of weeks. Once you have a photo,
can you please email it to me.
That's about all for now,
Neil Turner (neil@code-uk.com)

============= REPORT - LADIES 1STXI =============
===================================================
Team: Fyffe; Spicer; Hagan, Watts, Bullock;
Patterson, Parker, Boughen, Coates; Shaw,
Brothwell; Subs: Hewitt, Brettle.
Amersham & Chalfont put in a spirited display on
Saturday but still succumbed to their second league
defeat away to Newbury. The hosts started with
great purpose and some fluent skills as they
pressed forward but A&C's defence showed great
resilience with some strong clearances and one stop
on the goal-line by Al Spicer.
After 25 minutes it looked as though Newbury were
to finally break the deadlock when they were
awarded a penalty stroke but Tanya Fyffe produced
a marvellous save to keep her goal intact. A&C then
started to get some passing moves going forward
and the best opening created saw Annie Brothwell
put through on goal. Unfortunately, her shot went
just wide as the 'keeper advanced forwards.
Newbury won the game with three goals in the first
14 minutes of the second-half, all from penalty
corners. A&C's response saw Lynda Bullock denied
from a penalty corner and Pippa Brettle twice
nearly converting crosses.
A&C finally got a reward for their efforts after
57 minutes when a slick interchange of passes was
illegally stopped in the circle and Sarah Watts
confidently converted the stroke. However, they
were unable to make further inroads.
The Ladies seconds won their opening league game
of the season 2-1 away to Maidenhead with goals
from Hannah Towers and the winner from Claire
Winter with 5 minutes to go.

================== SOCIAL NEWS ==================
===================================================
Saturday evening sees the long awaited showdown
between England and Turkey in the Euro 2004
qualifying game. The game will be shown on the big
screen at the club, starting at 6pm.
After the game there will be a very brief
bar-naming ceremony at 8pm in
recognition of 2 past Club members who did an
extraordinary amount of work to progress CPSA to
where we are today. It would be great if you could
be there to show your appreciation.

=================== GUMSHIELDS ==================
===================================================
As we want to ensure all members are properly
protected, we have arranged for a professional
gumshield company to be around over the next week.
We would recommend that you have the "heavy" style
as this offers the most protection.
If you would like a proper fitted gumshield
(We have negotiated a discount, reduced cost
starting from £22), please be at the
following places (with your money) as below:
Newlands, Sunday morning (12th October) at 10:30
BHS, Monday night (13th October) at 19:45
Newlands, Tuesday night (14th October) at 19:45
The gumshields will then be delivered to you in
10 days.
