DREW DOWNING
During the First XI
Cup match on Sunday, Drew unfortunately
broke his jaw in two places defending a
shot on goal - I gather that he is going
to have an operation to fix the bones. I
am sure that the whole club and section
would wish him well and a speedy
recovery and the best of luck in any
treatment required. As a consequence
Drew may not be contactable for some
time, should you have an issues within
the hockey section that he would
normally address please contact Warren
Scott on 07957 357429.
HOCKEY TRAINING
Firstly a reminder
that last Tuesday was the last training
session of the season. Thanks again to
all the coaches for their help and all
those players that turned up. The
average weekly attendance of players
over the season was 55.
Training will
recommence in September.
There will be mens,
ladies and mixed hockey matches during
the summer, in the evenings, starting
sometime in May/June. If you wish to
play summer hockey then please ask your
current team captains for more details
in May if you have not heard beforehand.
SOFTBALL FRIENDLY
The Sports Club's new
softball team, Chalfont Park Phoenix,
will be playing its inaugural game this
Sunday. They are playing a team from
Thames Valley made up from a mixture of
players from their four teams. The game
is at home and will be starting at 2pm.

The season begins on
Saturday, 17th April, with an open day
and club supper in the evening. There
will be nets and practice for the
juniors from 10am, and a practice
match/nets/bowling machine, depending on
weather and numbers, for seniors from
2pm. The club supper should be a great
event as ever and cricket has reserved
two tables. Please call or email me to
reserve your place.
There is another work
party on Sunday, 4th April, to complete
the tasks we started last week. Any help
would be greatly appreciated, starting
at 11am and continuing through the
afternoon.

Despite beating the
league champions in their final league
match, A&C suffered the cruel fate of
being relegated by virtue of an inferior
goal-difference. Seven games ago, A&C's
cause looked a lost one as they were
rooted to the bottom of the Premier
Division with just one point. However, a
change of fortunes has since seen them
win five games.
Hawks started the
match like the champions that they
became last week and scored two
opportunist goals in the first 15
minutes. Undaunted by this A&C, clawed
their way back into the game with some
tireless running, led by Caroline
Coates, which closed down their hosts
and saw them start to enjoy some spells
of possession.
After 22 minutes, A&C
pulled a goal back with Katie Boughen's
rasping strike from a penalty corner.
The equaliser came just 4 minutes before
half-time, when Sarah Cartledge took a
quick free-hit outside the circle to
Katy Shaw and her reverse stick shot
found its way past the 'keeper.
After the break,
Natalie Durkin went close as she
deflected another free-hit just wide.
The winning goal came after 42 minutes
when a long through pass from Heidi
Frick deflected off a defender, Coates
picked up the loose ball and drove into
the circle before seeing her shot saved.
However, Laura Patterson pounced on the
rebound to score.
Cheered on by a vociferous travelling
support, A&C fought for every ball and,
although required to do a lot of
defending, still managed to get forward
and Patterson's pace was a constant
threat up front. In fact, A&C nearly
increased their lead when Heidi James
deflected Lynda Bullock's strong sweep
goalwards but saw her effort cleared off
the line.
A&C deservedly won
through and can reflect on a season of
what might have been.
Team: Fyffe; James;
Campbell, Parker, Brothwell; Cartledge,
Shaw, Boughen, Frick; Coates, Patterson;
Subs: Durkin, Bullock, Hewitt.
The Ladies 1's would
like to thank the travelling supporters
on Saturday and the Vintage team, who
stayed on after their game, to cheer the
team on.

BUCKS CUP SEMI
FINAL
Amersham and Chalfont
Men's first XI went to the Bucks finals
day on Sunday with the usual mixture to
make up the Cup XI. With the prospect of
a likely final with Slough, the team
went into the semi finals looking to
enjoy themselves. Against the league
winners South Bucks, A&C found it
surprisingly easy to break quickly.
However, the team were quickly reduced
to 10 men when Drew was caught square on
the jaw by a ball at a short corner.
However, A&C were first to score through
a superb strike from Warren Scott. South
Bucks came back quickly to level the
game up 1-1 through another short
corner.
The A&C band of merry
men came out fighting in the second half
despite three players having bad knocks
to their hands and were immediately back
up to 11 through the arrival of
reinforcements in Ian Ringham. A&C again
scored, after Watts carved the defence
open, Wolfenden converted the resulting
short corner. South Bucks though quickly
came back and scored in open play.
Despite the arrival of a twelfth man,
A&C conceded a further two goals late on
- despite having several opportunities
to score themselves. We wished South
Bucks luck for the final against Slough,
and they left their business card for
several of our players to join their
club!
