ACHC Ladies 3's managed to find Tilsley Park
and Rover Oxford for their 2nd league game of the season. The
day got even better with another classy win, 11-0 this time,
with chips and bread in the bar to finish!!!
Stewart scored 2 from the left wing in the
first 10 minutes of play and A&C dominated the first half with
some superb individual and team skills. They used the width well
and perseverance with the short corner routines paid dividends.
Sanders, Carter and Brand scoring cracking goals from the edge
of the D. Mo Burnley in goal 'got an assist' with a superb
clearance from an almost impenetrable defence made up of Lacey,
Brewer, Smith and Hardy. Further goals from Carter, Yaworsky and
Brand (who was on a mission! - scoring 4) resulted in a half
time score of 9-0
The opposition packed their defence in the
second half which dramatically slowed the game and only allowed
2 more goals. Fay Rider celebrating her 18th with a score on the
pitch and who knows what that evening!! She was given the bumps
and suitably embarrassed. Maximum effort was demonstrated by the
team with Schelshorn, Brand and Yaworsky needing treatment for
multiple blisters and foot injuries from manager Val. Superstars
eat your heart out.
This was an excellent and very promising
start to the season - bring it on!!!

Miss Chipperfield used all her old teaching
skills for our team talk (interesting charts, motivational
speech etc) but it was probably not a talk generally adopted by
the England International Team - we were to play with "2
triangles at the front" and (I quote) a "crumpled smiley face"
at the back. I thought she was referring to me personally but
was relieved that was actually to be our defence formation!!
It seemed to work. We applied relentless
pressure in the first half and were delighted when a penalty
corner resulted in old Kitto whacking in a fantastic goal with
one of her wondrous sweepy things. Great elation. Sadly it was
disallowed, not brought quite outside the "D". Undeterred, we
remained impenetrable in defence and launched attack after
attack. We missed open goals, we missed the post by millimetres
over and over and had numerous goalmouth scraps.
0:0 at half time. In the second half, against
the run of play, we quickly went a goal down, when a (rare)
penalty corner shot was saved by Helen but went in on the
rebound. We fought on, and when it seemed our efforts were going
to be fruitless Judith finally struck in a belter, followed
closely by another. A well deserved 2:1 victory. Congratulations
Judith but all the "triangles" deserve credit for exciting runs,
perseverance and some genuinely skilful hockey. Well done, too,
to the "crumpled smiley face brigade" at the back for
woman-marking manfully and trusting in each other generally.
Great attitude within the team, and fantastic
support from many people including Sue B. who was resting her
hand but not her vocal chords (get well soon), and some very
supportive parents. Big thanks to Jo and Catherine for great
advice and motivation, and last, but by no means least, to Mike
for umpiring impeccably as ever. Newbury, here we come...
Triangles: Ruth, Judith, Felicity, Lorna,
Steph, Emma, and Megan.
Smiley Face: Helen K, Helen M, Helen J, Helen D, He... whoops,
carried away.. Caroline and Andrea
