CRICKET
The Saturday 1st XI has now officially avoided relegation from TVCL Division 2B, thanks to how the leagues above them panned out!

SOFTBALL
Due to the Mens Cup game, this weeks session will start at 11am on Sunday morning at the club.

HOCKEY - MENS 1ST XI VASE
29th Feb - (This Sunday) - Newlands - 2pm Start v Ely City, the Mens First XI are one match away from the Quarter Finals. This is the furthest the Club has been and face opposition of a similar standard so have a good chance of progressing, but your support could be crucial! Please turn out to Newlands in numbers to give the Men the home support advantage!

HOCKEY - MIXED TROPHY
7th March - (Next Sunday) - The mixed team travel North to face Magpies in the Trophy - this is going to be a hard fought match against a very strong opposition, so any support welcome!

HOCKEY - UMPIRING COURSE
Just a reminder that we are running an umpiring course over two evenings on Wednesday 3rd and 10th of March from 8.00-10.00pm at the club - all welcome. Those wishing to qualify will be given a written test on the 17th March. This is a good time to gain umpiring qualification by gaining experience umpiring in friendly games up to the end of the season and over the summer. There are still spaces available on this course so please advise your captain or get in contact with Jo Peters (Ph: 01753 890497 / email: jo.peters99@tiscali.co.uk) if you wish to attend, or if you have any queries regarding the course.

IRISH NIGHT - SATURDAY 20TH MARCH

This is the next social that should be taking place at the club. Put it in your diaries now and more information will become available in the coming weeks. Help is urgently needed in order for this event to go ahead. If you are able to help, please contact Al (07793 813855) or Zoë (07779 617411)

RACE NIGHT - SAT 21ST FEBRUARY

A HUGE thank you to everyone involved in organising race night last Saturday - I had a throughly enjoyable evening and lost loads of money (Grrrr)!! Thanks to Zoë Scott (organising), David Peters and Neil Turner (the Tote), Beanie (commentary) and everyone who sold/bought horses.

Here is this weeks roll of honour:

Mike Snell (L2), Sam Machin (MV), Steve Coleman (M2), Adam Laubser (Mixed), Alastair Wertheim (Mixed), Drew Downing (M3), Peter Colwill (L4), Mark Yeomans (M4), Heidi James (L3).

A&C secured a second successive league victory on Saturday against Sonning at Newland Park. A&C kept their concentration to win this hard fought encounter.

An early chance fell to Erin Ruxton who had her shot comfortably saved before Sonning responded by hitting the post from a penalty corner. Laura Patterson, who caused constant trouble to the Sonning defence all afternoon with her speed and skill, put in a couple of dangerous crosses which the A&C forwards just failed to get on the ends of. Ruxton then forced the Sonning 'keeper into making an even better save.

A&C took the lead 3 minutes into the second-half when Heidi James' cross was deflected into the net off a defender. Patterson nearly made it two when she rounded the last defender and sent her shot across the face of the goal. The decisive second goal came after 47 minutes when a well-worked penalty corner routine resulted in Katie Boughen's pass being converted by Katy Shaw.

Sonning started to put a few more testing attacks together but A&C's defence stood firm showing good composure under pressure and Annie Brothwell excelled again with some timely tackles. Tanya Fyffe made two good saves and clearances when called upon and A&C enjoyed their first clean sheet of the league season.

Team: Fyffe; James; Spicer, Parker, Brothwell; Coates, Shaw, Boughen, Ruxton; Frick, Patterson; Subs: Cartledge, Brettle, Bullock.
