CAPTAINS REQUIRED

As some of you may know we now have Captains for the first four teams for each section, but lack a ladies 5ths Captain and a Mens 5ths and a 6ths Captain.

If you would be interested in taking up any of these positions, or helping in any other way, then please let me know a.s.a.p. as without these roles it will be almost impossible for these teams to function!!

Help given by you to the club can be very rewarding, and makes life run much smoother for all concerned - please call or mail to chat if you think you may be able to help!

The Saturday 2's disappointing run continued as they came up against a former Pakistan A cricketer in their relegation battle away to Marlow Park. Choosing to bat first, Chalfont's opening partnership was steady before two wickets fell in two balls - the first of which was Simon Gooch for 27. Tony Hewston (33) then helped up the tempo and was out with the score on 77 off 35 overs. Adil Irfan then batted fluently for his 45 off 39 balls. Warren Scott (29) had opened the innings and done a stoic job before being run out in the 47th over to help ensure that Chalfont made use of their full allotment of overs.

In reply, Marlow Park lost a wicket without scoring to Tom Richardson before Sajjad entered the fray. Sajjad had scored a double century the week before and followed that up on Saturday with an unbeaten 113. At first he started patiently but soon got into his stride. Although he gave one difficult chance when just past 50 from a ferocious square cut, he moved towards the 90's before he gave any further sniff of getting out. While Sajjad was in, the result never looked in doubt and Marlow got home by 9 wickets with more than 14 overs to spare.

We batted first on a treacherous surface at Taplow. With a hot sun drying a wet pitch, the ball was popping and seaming all over the place. Taplow's openers bowled very well and reduced us to 24-5 after 13 overs. Just as last week, we were rescued by an excellent knock from the skipper, Rahul Punj, who made 58 and Javaid Ali, who scored 68. We were effectively a bowler short when Taplow batted, and this cost us the match. A special mention for Mudo Ahmed, who put in an excellent spell of seam bowling, and also to Justin Weller, who came out of "bowling" retirement to turn his arm over, but all to no avail, I'm afraid. At 90-5 it seemed to be going our way, but their sixth wicket pair played very well and they eventually reached 178-5 in 37.2 overs. So, defeat by five wickets.
