Last weekend found the Mighty
2s entertaining Prestcold at home on a
surprisingly mellow and rain free day. This
week's comedy captain, Alky Malky, began in fine
style by winning the toss and putting Prestcold
in to bat - a brave descision considering his
bowling options and that 2 of our players had
yet to put in an appearance! Surely the
surrogate skipper had something up his
sleeve-but more of this later.
Taking to the field with 2
subs in the form of Webb (I'll only be a minute
dear!) and somebody recognisable only as an
Arsenal supporter (spit, spit!), the start was
immediately delayed by the unexpectedly early
arrival of Neal '5live' Collins, who took over
the keeping duties from Short Arm Jab, confident
in his ability to last an entire innings without
getting A) bored, B) cramp or C) lumped by a
sledged batsman-but more of this later.
Judge Jon opened Chalfont's
attack with a near perfect display of his own
inimitable style of bowling, abley supported by
Alky King Louie and his soporific swing bowling
from the other end, whilst FT Noot sauntered
onto the field of play at last to relieve Webb.
Prestcold advanced smartly to
50 when Alky revealed his master plan and bought
on Dobber Anderson to bamboozle the batsmen and
drop the run rate lower than FTN's pulse!
This fine display of
containment was backed up by some stunningly
athletic fielding from the more ancient and
decrepit members of the side (all be it aided by
gravity), noteably Short Arm Jab and that man
Alky again, which put the younger and more
spritely fielders to shame! Unfortunately
catches were dropped with suprising regularity,
Geoff 'Bungle' Brown having a mare as the
designated ball magnet with chances following
him to all points of the field.
Prestcold nudged their way to
202 for 6 at tea, leaving Chalfont the option of
chasing or shutting up shop.
5live opened the batting with
Bungle (who scored a six and a four after four
maidens) and was soon up to speed, nudging and
nurdling any fielder in earshot as a procession
of batsmen supported him from the other end,
only Dobber making any legitimate claim to a
score of his own. Meanwhile, 5live annoyed more
fielders and scored freely, Davenport sulked, FT
Noot raised his metabolism enough to face a
couple of balls and with 3 overs remaining,
Short Arm Jab was soon diving to the crease to
help 5live to his ton before falling LBW.
And so it was left to the
experienced 'Dead Bat' Nagle to see out the last
balls, sensibly stealing the strike from 5live
to avoid bloodshed as we coughed and spluttered
to a draw posting 186 for 7 with 5live carrying
his bat with 113 not out then buggering off and
leaving the rest of us to sooth the verbally
savaged oppos. I love a good game of cricket.
Unfortunately this wasn't one.

The Saturday 2's put in a
good performance against table-toppers Bracknell
1's before losing by 5 wickets. The groundsmen
had done a tremendous job in getting the pitch
fit to play on following Friday's heavy rains.
Losing the toss, Chalfont were asked to bat
first on the wet track but Simon Seabrook (47)
and Kevin Braithwaite (29) managed to give the
innings a solid start as they put on 79 for the
first wicket. Bracknell's John Kirby (5-63)
bowled very tightly in the middle overs of the
innings and Chalfont were starting to struggle
at 108 for 4 off 40 overs. Martin Cartledge (35)
then produced some fireworks, including three
sixes, before Warren Scott (20) and Asif Raza
(31) scored an amazing 57 off the last 5 overs
with a mixture of cheeky running between the
wickets and big hitting.
Bracknell's reply started
very steadily and Cartledge (2-36) made two
early breakthroughs. However, Heyes (44) and, in
particular, Lesley (77) set about the bowling
and put Bracknell in the driving seat before
Jonathan Lindsay (1-33) and Javaid Ali (2-50)
dismissed them both in quick succession with 40
still required. Some lusty blows by the middle
order meant that Bracknell finally reached their
target with 2 overs and 5 wickets to spare.

TREASURER
As you may be aware there are some roles vacant
at the moment, and unfortunately this includes
the Hockey Section Treasurer. This is a crucial
role and we really need a member to come forward
to take on the role - It is not a great deal of
work, but obviously some understanding of
figures etc. would be of use.
PLEASE please do have a think about this and
speak to me if you can help with this OR any
other role

The Sunday 1st XI made the
short journey to Farnham Royal for its final
MASL match of the season. We batted first and
made 182 all out in 39.5 overs, with Adil Irfan
(49) and Shahid Din (39) making the major
contributions. Farnham had a West Indian "A"
player who has taken 50 league wickets this
season, left arm quick, and he bowled his eight
overs in three spells, each time setting our
innings back. The aforementioned also opened the
batting and smashed a quick, if rather
fortuitous, 37, and Farnham reached 80-1 in 11
overs. Thereafter, the match was really over,
although we fought back well and only lost with
three overs to go, 185-5 in 36.3 overs, defeat
by five wickets.
