MENS AVAILABILITY
As you may or may not be
aware I have recently taken on the role of Men's
Playing Representative.
One of my main aims this year
it to try to map out the availability of all
players as far in advance as possible. For some
of you this could mean as far ahead as
Christmas, for others it may be 3-4 weeks. I am
not unrealistic; I know that people have
commitments, other than hockey, that cannot
always be planned in advance.
To achieve this will benefit
all of the men's teams; it will mean that the
captains know in advance who should be available
each week, leaving them only the task of
confirmation. It will particularly help those
teams that are lower down the 'pecking order'
for players, and who's teams can be disrupted by
unknown or changing availability.
You will notice an A3
document is now pinned to the notice board at
the club, it details every Saturday from now
until Christmas and is broken down into AM and
PM. I would be grateful if you could take the
time to fill this in as far ahead as possible,
your captain will also have a copy and you can
give them your availability as well. I am asking
for AM and PM, as although you will probably
play in a regular team, if you are unavailable
for a game, you may be able to help out another
team. Hopefully this approach will strengthen
the men's side of the club and allow players to
play as many games as possible.
I am also available if you
wish to talk to me about pretty much anything. I
can be contacted by email at jbootl01@bcuc.ac.uk
or by phone in the evenings on 07968 418 060.
I thank you in advance for
your support.

AMERSHAM AND CHALFONT
MIXED 7'S TOURNAMENT
It all kicked off on the
Saturday night with a party to get everyone into
the mood for some serious fun and games and
there was some more than dubious dancing thanks
to classics from the likes of Chesney Hawkes and
N-Trance being pumped out by our resident DJ
Trick (James Stevens) doing an excellent job
getting the crowd worked up. A lot of purple
nasty was consumed by all and the visiting teams
of Kent and Bucks universities did a good job in
filling up the bar!
Saturday night slowly turned
into Sunday morning and a big thanks has to go
to Kent University for acting as stand in
cockerel and waking everyone up at the crack of
dawn. Thanks must also go to all who worked in
the kitchens for most of Sunday morning so that
people could have a fried breakfast which was
gratefully received by all (who could stomach
it!!)! The hockey began (slowly) with people
falling onto the pitch from their tents and
looking a bit worse for wear but none the less
eager.
As the day wore on the speed
of the games increased and there was a sign that
some good hockey was being played (we were just
not quite sure where!). With all the group games
played, it eventually concluded with two awesome
games of skill and stamina with the Tarts on
Tour and South Bucks making the final, and a
very soggy Amersham and Chalfont B (Thanks to
the Hot Tub outside the club!!) and Kent
University 2 in the wooden spoon play off. No
surprise to say that the Tarts were slightly
worse for wear after being in the bar all day,
so South Bucks romped home in the final 2-0.
Amersham & Chalfont B managed to win their first
game of the day to ensure the wooden spoon
doughnuts came their way!
A big thanks has to go to
everyone who took part and all the help given on
the day. Special mentions go to Chris Paine,
Alistair Wertheim, Dan Lovelace and Darryl
Chiles for helping with the umpiring and also to
Peter Colwill who did a fantastic job on the PA
system to keep it all on track and also helped
out with umpiring. Last and most definitely not
least to Taylormade who provided food and
refreshment to everyone over the whole weekend.
We look forward now to next year!!!!!
Thanks from Geoff Brown and
Sarah Wood
