Amersham & Chalfont January 2005 Club Minutes

Amersham & Chalfont Hockey Club
Minutes of meeting held on Thursday 20th January 2005

Present:
Warren Scott (WS) Sarah Watts (SW) Ian Ringham (IR)
Peter Colwill (PC) Justin Bootland (JB) Emma Hewitt (EH)
Bob Hance (BH) Jo Peters (JP)

Minutes of last meeting & matters arising:
The minutes of the last meeting (8th December 2004) were proposed by PC & accepted by WS as correct.

Actions from previous meeting:
See committee actions spreadsheet (not updated this month).

Chairman’s report:
The volunteer’s party will be on 5th March. Al Spicer needs the list of attendees via WS by the end of January 2005. It is for those people who have done work for CPSA. There will be a buffet meal. Partners may be invited on basis of contribution made, but not for general club members, only those who have contributed to the club e.g. coaches, captains, officials, committee, pitch, teas, fixtures, newsletters, kit, umpires, social, marketing, county coordinator, first aid, juniors etc. WS will need to view the final number as there may be too many. May need to consider hockey & directors only depending on final numbers.

WS mentioned to the Board the issues around the men’s section & availability & the need to keep 5 men’s teams and the vints.

Caroline Chipperfield is writing an external events guideline.

There are socials at the club throughout February with the 5 Nations rugby to encourage people to come along.

There will be a working party at the club on the 13th February (10am to 2pm). Let as many people know, there is an email going out. There will be a free hot lunch for those people working through that time.

WS reminded the committee that we should all be careful when sending out emails to numerous addresses & always use the bcc box so that other addresses cannot be seen and then just list in the email who it has been sent to. An email etiquette email will be sent out by CPSA.

Treasurer’s report:
Notes from the accounts:
Approx. £17,000 in the bank.
The following bills are outstanding: Shirts £868, 419.19; Nov/Dec teas £1,692; Nov pitch 1,397.08; pitch Dec £820.44; safety/first aid £109.37; Indoor £102.81; CPSA £2,132.63.
Pending bills: Sep/Oct Teas £2,000 approx.; Steve Jack £400 approx.; Beaconsfield High School £1,430 approx.
CPSA paid the England Hockey affiliation fees of £2,132.63.
CPSA have paid the tea bills and will invoice the hockey club. It doesn’t look as though there is a bill for the Sep/Oct teas. BH to ask Peter Banner about this.
Match fee collection is less than expected – some doubling up in the men’s section and more juniors playing in the ladies section.
JP to chase Beaconsfield High School invoice.
BH to document Steve Jack’s fees in the ‘training’ section of the accounts.
Only 5 team’s match fees were collected on 9th January (1 ladies and 4 men) & there are possibly 3 mixed matches missing. Also missing 7 mens and 2 ladies spreadsheets

Secretary’s report:
Post/Emails/ Notices:
Bucks County HA would like all clubs to be very careful when writing match reports, not to write unpleasant things about the umpires.
South Bucks HC have set up a junior section, although they will mainly attract players from the Slough area.

Men’s Playing Report:
M1 3rd; M2 3rd; M3 hovering around mid-table; M4 5th; M5 bottom. Vints lost in the Plate competition – unfortunately there was a softball match which took away the supporters.
M2s and M5s have been having a difficult season but are both being positive. Ian Hockney has taken on the role of captain for the 5s. Some problems with banter on the pitch. Availability is getting better, although has off weeks. Still lots of injuries and players pulling out at the last minute. Ian has been recruiting with some of his friends playing for the 5s.
Approx. 26-30 attending Monday night training. EH mentioned that the ladies helping at training do sometimes feel like they are not required, with the men taking the lead in most of the sessions. Ladies should be encouraged to pass on their experiences and just join in with the others.

Ladies Playing Report:
1s P17, W14, L3, D0 top of league, through the R2 of Vase
2s P14, W3, L5, D5 mid-table
3s P15, W8, L4, D3 top 1/3
4s P14, W10, L1, D3 looking at promotion
5s P8, W3, L4, D1

Top goal scorer for the club is Laura Patterson.

The ladies didn’t get through to the 2nd day of the Indoor tournament after drawing their first game 2-2 and losing their next 2 games.

There will be a ladies playing committee meeting shortly.

Junior Playing Report:
IR, SW and Andy Watts attended a meeting last night with Chiltern District Council regarding the Thames Valley Youth games, which ACHC are helping with this year for hockey. We are hoping to select 2 teams to take to the games to represent CDC. The council do all the advertising and send out all the information to the schools and the ACHC set up the training sessions for the teams and take them to the games. In return CDC are helping ACHC with their Criminal Records Bureau documentation and donating £500 to club equipment.

Active Sports have also offered to put a coach into locals schools on behalf of the club. It has been noted that Dr Challoners do not have a hockey coach and so would appreciate assistance.

Sunday training is still going very well.

The Boys and Girls are still in the U15 Plate/Cup to be played 20th Feb

Clubmark must be our main priority now.

Any Other Business:
Safety 1st Aid course at the club on Wednesday. Maximum of 16. It will be first come first served on this occasion.

There has been a donation to the club of £120. SW to write to him to thank him.

President’s Day: SW to write to Sam Machin
Ladies 11-12.30
U18s vs Vets 12.30 – 2
Men 2 - 3.30

Ex- players should be invited including Kirsty Caneparo, Mo Burnley, Helen Lloyd, Katie Boughen, Sarah Walsh
Umpires to be asked: Mike Snell, Elaine Stamp (JP), Paul Haythornthwaite, Paul Adams (??), Simon Seabrook, Chris Paine (??).
Teas for ladies and men, but just sandwiches for the middle game.

Annual Dinner Dance price agreed at £12.50 per head with Taylormade. Tickets £30.

Discipline. A mens 2s player was recently sent off for swearing at an umpire (who was the chairman of Banbury Hockey Club). The player did not apologise and the umpire was going to take the issue further. WS has spoken to the player concerned and the disciplinary committee will review this further.

Date of Next Meeting:
17th February 2005

Future meeting dates: 16th March.
